Q: Could you rate these 3 companies for me best first and which would be best to add at this time. I believe they have all moved up recently and am wondering if I have missed the boat. Do you have an alternate choice? Should I add one position or 2 half positions.

Thanks again for your support and wisdom.

Q: Hi 5i,

your web site says the D/E for DOL is 155.9.
This seems high and doesn't make a lot of sense because I believe you
like the stock. Can you help explain. What is the balance sheet of the company like? Do they have much debt to be concerned about in a rising interest rate environment?

thanks for your insight

Q: Comprised of the above Canadian companies, our TFSA represents a small portion of our overall portfolio and is its most growth oriented component. All investments are made with the intent to be long-term holds (10+ years).

Two of the holdings, AT and LSPD are down over 50%, while FSV, GSY, NVEI and WELL are all down by about a third. We intend to do some rebalancing. How would you rate (1-10) these 6 for additional money today? Please include a brief explanation for the ratings.

Finally, if you could add one more Canadian company to the mix, what would it be?

Q: We'd all love to get a look at a few stock prices from 5 years in the future. Get a big winner, or avoid a big loser, with no risk. If you could get a list of the prices of 10 Canadian stocks 5 years from now, which ones would you pick? Let's say stocks with a min market cap of roughly $1 billion Cdn.

Q: In anticipation of a possible recession in the near future, I would like to slowly tweak a few of my holdings. Could you please list some of the best sectors to hold in a recession, and if possible, list a few excellent Canadian companies in each sector and perhaps some US stocks. What may be the worst sectors to hold in a recession? Sorry, this is a big question, but one that I think many members may be thinking about.
Thanks!

Q: Good Morning,

I have recently retired and need to improve yield. The above noted holdings have a low yield or have not performed well.

Can you please rate from first to sell down to last to sell and possibly provide some basic reasoning.

Thanks very much.

Q: May I have your pick-up among the compagnies in this index based on growth, management and ROE? I know that buy back program can be used for different purposes namely to invest in the business or to bonify executives salaries. Can you point out those actively buying back for the right reasons and if there is an ETF listed that mimics this index in Canada and USA?

Thank you very much

Q: I have noticed that DOLLARTREE , a US, discount store where every item was sold for a dollar each, has increased their prices by 25% to 1.25. Assuming 7% inflation that leaves an 18 % increase in gross margin; not bad. I expect consumers would not avoid purchases on a 25 cent increase so unit sales should not affected.
Does this sound reasonable?
Would the same dynamic be in play with Dollarama ( although they have an increasingly number of items above a dollar ) ?
Your thoughts are appreciated. Derek

Q: I want to initiate positions in my unregistered investment account, but if I buy all 8 above stocks, each position would be extremely small. (But that is still an option.) Considering thoughts on inflation and interest rates, could you put these in order of priority for purchase now. These positions would primarily be for safety, with a bit of income, which is non-essential, and some growth, which is also not essential. Just looking for your confidence level of these as companies for the longish term.
