Q: I am beginning to transition my portfolio from a growth portfolio to a more defensive posture. My portfolio analysis indicates I am approximately 6% underweight in both Consumer Defensives and Consumer Cyclicals. Q: In your answer to Shirley on Nov. 22 you wrote, "We think investors can position a portfolio more conservatively by raising the allocation to defensive names that emphasize downside protection with good upside potential." Can you give a list of 5 CAD and 5 US stocks that you think would fall under that statement?
Thank you

Q: In May 2024 you answered a question rewarding building a portfolio of US stock: Q: Suppose our extraterrestrial friend, Blaarg, seeks to diversify their portfolio by investing in the U.S. market. Which 12-15 top U.S. stocks would you recommend for them over the next decade? Thanks

5i Research Answer:
Here are some of the high-quality US names with moderate risks and reasonable valuations that we think investors could do well by owning a basket of these names over the long term. Although these may not the the best winners, we think these could be considered as compounders such as BKNG, ULTA, AXON, ABNB, UBER, ADBE, FI, ODFL, HEI, AZO, ORLY, ARES.
Would your answer be the same today. If not, what would be your list today? Thanks

Q: Looking for advice on how to rank these 3 stocks for a medium-term investment. All seem solid based on past performance and metrics but not sure if any have a particular advantage given their respective foci and expansion potential.

Q: My wife and I have accumulated a fair amount of cash in our RRSP we would now like to invest. We have at least 5 years time horizon. We are well represented in Oil, Banks, Tech., financial. We have some reits as well. Not much retail or healthcare. We like growth and dividends and not too concerned about higher weightings in the right industries (we are considering more banks and tech, as well as minerals for batteries). We have about 40K which is about 10% of our portfolio. What would you consider good value right now? It seems many tech stocks are priced very high right now so would you avoid tech at the moment? Can you suggest 5 value stocks? Thanks.

Q: I currently hold all these stocks, with the exception of elf. I came up with the thanks in large part to 5i as these are names that have come up in various Q&As. If you had to pick only 10 to hold long term (which for me is 1 year), what would be your ten? The 10 should be those that are the best expected performs regardless of diversification or risk. Just the top 10. Alternately., would you suggest holding them all but with different weightings and if so please comment on a suggested weighting.
My plan was to hold 10 with 10% in each but I’m not married to that idea.
Thank you kindly.
Jason

Q: If you were forced to use borrowed $ to invest where would you park it? Interest cost is close to 6%, bonus points if the investment or investments pay a monthly dividend.
Q: Good morning - I understand that AAP is the parent of Carquest, which in our region is a well-run autocrats supplier. I know some shop owners personally and am impressed with how professionally the Carquest organization is run ( at least at the regional level). Then I look at the AAP stock history and analyst comments and it does not look great. What are your thoughts on AAP? Sleeper or stay away?
Q: Both of these have been good stocks to own in the last year and more years, what is there future and which one is the buy now, or both?
Thanks again
