Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Hi Peter,
Banks and fund companies are pitching the sale of private assets like private equity, properties, infrastructure and private credits to retail investors, setting up funds for high net worth clients. What should retail investors watch out for when considering investing in such funds? Are there funds in this area that you will recommend for retail investors? Thanks.

Q: Hello, with respect to David's suggestion for 5i initiating a US growth portfolio - If I remember correctly, Peter started a Long/Short USD Equity fund 1-2 years ago. With disclosure " Not a solicitation ", may be you could direct us to a place/contact, where more information could be obtained about this USD Fund offer - Eligibility, minimum, mandate, performance and fees etc.

Thank You

Q: Hello,

It seems like Wealthsimple Trade is offering some new products. 3 of which are stock lending, private credit, and a few months ago a venture fund. What are your thoughts on these offerings and could you explain how they generate a return?

Thank you.

Q: How does one determine if an alternative investment company is legit and determine the level of risk with the investment. My daughter has been looking at bequest legacy investing. They have a legacy fund that invests in commercial real estate, performing loans and energy that provides 10% cash flow and gives you your investment back after two years if you choose or you can stay invested. Are you familiar with this company?

Q: Hi Peter and Ryan,

It is a pleasure to see you folks on BNN, When is the next appearance ?

why don't you add `a calendar of events' on your website of when you and your team is invited to interviews on business news channels on TV or Internet. Those interviews are really informative and cover wide ranging topics and I'm sure your members would love to watch them `live'.

Thanks

Rajesh

Q: I follow Jason Donville and like 5iresearch recommends similar tech companies as 5i using "the rule of 40". Do you use this rule? Other than his fairly transparent newsletter, is there any way to see exactly what his holdings are in the DKAM Capital Ideas fund?

Q: Over the past few weeks I've become increasingly interested in alternative investing, particular with regard to fixed income. I meet the criteria for an accredited investor and could manage an offering memorandum, yet liquid alts look a little more interesting. Three questions: (1) Do you think there's a case to be made to redeploy 5% to 10% of the traditional 60/40 mix into alternatives? (2) Are you guys up for answering some questions about the different liquid alt strategies? (3) If not, any suggestions where a relatively savvy investor would go to get some good independent advise on how to best wade into this asset class?
