Q: Splitting hairs I expect but which best for a RSP ?

Q: Retired, dividend-income investor. A question earlier today has motivated me to finally ask this question....been thinking of it for quite a while. It had to do with potential rising interest rates and your response was that dividend investors should be prepared for a bumpy ride in the short term (my paraphrase of your answer).

I own the above securities and for the most part trim-add around core positions that I hold for the long term. Is it possible to divide the above securities into two camps....one that would be "ok" in a rising interest rate environment and the other that I should consider trimming a bit or maybe selling? I am ok riding things out for the long term and do not normally react to short term volatility.

Q: Not an investing question, but can you help me understand, at least a big-picture view, some of the financial impacts behind last months Texas weather?
AQN has already indicated a $45M hit as a result (and this is presumably mostly or entirely built in to recent share prices). JE apparently (?) owes $250 as a result, which they can't pay and hence are seeking creditor protection. Brazos Electric Power Co-op (of Texas) supposedly owes a whopping $1.8 billion for the same event.
To whom is that money paid (in AQN's case) or owed (in JE's & Brazos case) -- ERCOT? But ERCOT is a member/supplier-owned non-profit, and AQN, JE, Brazos et al are the members, so isn't the money just circulating among the members?
Meanwhile, the end users -- individuals and business using the power -- are paying huge electric bills. We have friends in Dallas who got 5-figure electric bills for their home!
Where does the "buck stop" in this merry-go-round?
Are you in a position to shed any light on this?

We hold AQN and BIP.UN in the utilities space and I'd like to increase by either adding to an existing position or initiating a new position. We also hold BAM.A, so indirect exposure to BEP.UN. Using safety and valuation as the primary metrics, can you rank the stocks above?

Q: I need to raise only a small amount of money to allow a RRIF payment. I have listed a few stocks from which to pick and am seeking guidance on what you might think is the best at this particular time. This is without consideration to sector or balance and only about how to avoid selling one that's prospects are good and hanging on to those which are not quite as good.

Q: The majority of our utility holdings are in FTS /AQN, and when looking at value metrics: EV/Rev, p/b, forward p/e and yield, these 2 stocks appear to rank highest of the stocks listed above. NPI seems to be 3rd best in value, but it does have a higher p/b ratio. We also hold the following utilities in decreasing weight: BEP.UN, NPI and INE. We need to trim SU/ENB and want to add more to some or all of the latter 3 utilities - would you add the most to BEP.UN then NPI or focus on just BEP.UN? INE appears to be a bit over-valued at this time. Should we continue to hold INE, sell or add on more significant dip? We income/growth investors with 10+ year time horizon.

I would like to thank you for all your sound advice since inception. I would need to trim up to 5 stocks from this portfolio. If you were in that position, which ones would you cut starting with first to cut up to fifth. These stocks are in a rrsp with equal percentages. Thanks. Gilles

Q: In your answer to Steve on BEPC vs BIP.UN differential: can you explain why these two should be thought as linked together? I get that BEPC and BEP.UN are linked as they represent the same company.
Would you agree that the growth for BEPC/BEP.UN will be muted this year (servicing debt is going to go up) and financials (US banks) would see better growth potential? Would the growth issue apply to AQN as well (for the same reason)?

Q: Peter; It seems to me that there is a general selling of the renewable area, AQN,CPX,BLX etc, . Just profit taking after the huge run up or a back to the past oil switch to the energy sector? Thanks,

Q: Retired, dividend-income investor who trims and adds around mostly full 4-5% positions. I own AQN, FTS. With the drop, due to Texas among other factors, how much is already baked into their stock positions? I am ready to top up Fortis now that it has dropped to < $50. What does your crystal ball say? Add or wait a little longer? I know it is a timing question. I just didn't want to jump in and catch a falling knife if you thought their might be a bit more downside.

Would you attribute Algonquin's 'relative weakness' compared to Brookfield Renewable Partners due to Algonquin's Texas exposure? Is Fortis in a similar situation as Algonquin? Please rank these stocks, with a rationale for your choices. Thanks in advance.

Q: The utility stocks appear to be moving out of favour. Is this a good time to add, or has their softening only just begun. I realize it's a market-timing question, so maybe the question is better framed as: on the whole, are Canadian utility stocks running below or ahead of their average levels, whether based on FCF, PE, or some other more relevant metric?
