Q: These very large Cies appear promising to me for longer term : wich could resist better in case of a recession ?

Q: I am looking recommendation for a solid long term Canadian growth stock, that one can largely purchase and forget it. This is for my grandchildren's portfolios which currently have a core holding of VEQT and small satellite positions in MICROSOFT, COSTCO and Visa. The portfolios are expected to be held for a very long time. I do monitor the positions currently on a quarterly basis.

Any thoughts on this approach and possible securities that would fit the bill?

Q: I am managing RESPs for a two-year-old and a 4 -year -old grandchildren so there is a very long runway before they will need to start cashing in. The funds to invest available so far are fairly limited. I would like to add some US stocks but not sure it is worth the fees to convert to US $ and most of the good companies have high-priced shares. But I am familiar with Canadian Depositary Receipts (CDRs) and that there is a pretty wide selection of stocks available.
Can you suggest 4 of your favourite of these US CDRs that would be suitable for this type of investment?

Opinions seem to be high on Visa right now with pent up demand for travelling . What are your thoughts on the stock? It is trading @ $211.73 US . Is there a canadian hedged Visa Stock? "VISA CDR trades @ $20.48. can you please clarify?

Q: I am down on Block and was looking to tax loss before year end. That said:
1) Would it be worthwhile to wait for earnings? I thought perhaps a good report might help improve this situation. 2) Is Block worthwhile to buy back after 30 days or move the funds to my 1/2 position in Visa?

Q: Visa has been making new lows.What would you consider a good entry price for starting a position?
I assume visa has been decreasing due to recession and inflation cuting down on spending. Would agree with that or is there soem other reasons for the decline?

Q: I have a significant amount of cash to invest. I would like to allocate to some very high-quality stocks across various industries that can be bought and held for a long period of time so they can compound. If you could pick 10 companies that meet this criteria, what would they be? I was thinking about BAM, MSFT, V, COST, CP, UNH, HD, JNJ, GOOG, BRK.b but am open to suggestions or changes to this list. Q: I'm more a scavenger than a predator, as much interested in dividends as capital gains. Right now, however, I see opportunity in the growth sector as it collapses after years of ridiculous rises. My intention is to sell off bond funds to pick off the debris of this collapse.

First question: Now or wait?

Second question: What are your choices given this scenario, US or Canadian? Bear in mind, I'm not interested in the 5 or 10 yr wait. I'm looking at a bounce back after half the herd has jumped. I want reasonable growth prospects, a price to earnings ratio that isn't stupid and a margin that also isn't stupid. Say, for example, Apple.

You get it. I also don't expect perfection from you. No one ever got it from me.

Q: I read your answer to a question regarding tax loss selling where you said that you were "endorsing tax-loss harvesting right now". Q: I'm overweight financials - almost 20% of my total portfolio. In relatively equal proportions I hold: BAM, GSY, SLF, X and V. Should I trim across the board or do these stocks have sufficiently different economic drivers that being 20% overweight is not a concern? Thank you.

Q: Hi Peter and Staff

Visa has done well in the period of ownership but has stalled over the last couple of years....."Experts" seem to be divided somewhat on the returns to expect in the future.

In my financial basket V is a larger position than ECN and TSU but lower than BAM.A.

What do you feel about the future expectations of Visa in particular and how would you rank the 4 stocks future returns
