Review of Trisura Group Ltd.

SEP 05, 2024 - Trisura Group (TSU) is a leading specialty insurance company that operates in the surety, risk solutions, corporate finance, and fronting business lines. TSU has a long history of strong underwriting in its Canadian specialty lines business, and its expansion into the US specialty market has helped grow the company’s top line. Considering its rebound in profit margins and the potential shift in investor sentiment as its writedown issues are largely in the past, we are upgrading our rating by one notch to a ‘B+’.

Q: Hello, on August 15th you answered a question by Derek about this company. Feel free to abridge this quote within your response, pasted below. I don't fully understand your response, as it seems to indicate that TSU will grow faster, but why would you say that IFC is more balanced? Does this mean that IFC should actually grow more over time, or that it will grow less but is more stable? Thank you very much.
Original answer about growth:

IFC (property and casualty insurance and auto insurance) - consensus growth estimate over the next few years 6%

TSU (specialty insurance) - consensus growth estimate over the next few years 10%-12%
TSU has the best growth, as the company reinvested the majority of its earnings back, and volume growth in TSU’s recent quarters is quite healthy. TSU has the strongest growth, but we think IFC could be the most balanced name between capital returns and growth.

Q: Hi 5i team,

What would be your current 5 best (highest conviction) buys in each of the following categories please.
1. small cap
2. mid cap
Hold target is 3-10 years or longer.
I prefer these categories as they seem to have the most torque (in the right environment) albeit also the most risk.

Cheers,
Steve

Q: With the markets at all time highs, are there certain stocks you think people can scoop up or add to that have good growth opportunities at a reasonable price? I know 5i is not usually worried about buying companies at 52 week highs, but it is still something difficult for me!
