Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Hi! Doing some cleaning up and wondering if these are buy, sell, or hold. In reference to Shane's comments I also agree that it wasn't too long ago that so many advisors were recommending growth stocks at lofty prices. Having always been a more of a value investor I dipped my toes, but am feeling like I'd be too scared to ever enter any kind of a growth stock again. I know if interest rates peak you feel these can do well again but only time will tell and many investors have lost lots of money on the high growth names like in Cathy Wood's funds. Happy to hold any of these names if there could ever be a turn around. Thank you!

Q: Can you provide a 'buy' list for a person wanting to deploy $200,000 (inside RRSP) with the goal of creating 5% or more sustained cash flow - as well as growing the original capital to keep up with inflatiion? We do not have company pensions - this would serve to supplement our government pensions.
Thinking, 20 stocks across all sectors @ $10,000 each (or 5%)
Also could you include 10 growth stocks (inside TFSA) for a total of $250,000 - gotta have some fun ;)
Many Thanks

Q: Having sufficient cash flow and/or ready liquid cash on hand plus sufficient prospective new business in the hopper to get to the other side of this nasty market being the criteria, in which order would you liquidate?

Q: Hi 5i

I have too many stocks and am starting to pare back. I have these five stocks in Energy. Which two would you sell? To which stock(s )would you add the cash from the sale.

Thanks for the excellent advice. It is so comforting to have 5i to ask questions of. It is hard to be objective sometimes when it is your own portfolio.

Q: Ignoring company size and sector diversification, can you please rank these stocks on a best to worst risk / reward basis for long term hold. I own them all in various accounts with a half position or less so my plan would be to let some go and increase position in others with better potential. Any of them you consider good buy at the moment? Thank you!

Q: Can I get the fundamentals on these companies.

How do you see them performing in an inflationary environment.

Our retirement income portfolios are heavily weighted to higher dividend companies : banks, utilities, pipelines, telecoms, BIP and BEP, and CNR.
We are considering adding one or more of the following companies: PKI, EIF, NWC, SLF, TRP.
We would expect them to provide reliable increasing dividends plus some ongoing share price growth over the years.
Could you please indicate what order you would purchase them and maybe a comment or two on each for a very long term hold.
Thanking you.......... Paul W K.

Q: Hi Peter, Ryan, and Team,

In a TFSA with PKI as the only "energy" holding, would you be OK with a switch to ENB? (Higher yield, lower beta, more conservative) The recent dropping of PKI from 5i's portfolio is another reason, and it's been quite a "dog" for me.

Thanks for your continued insight as we navigate this difficult market.

Q: If you had to pick four out of the above names to add to today, which would you choose?

Q: All three reported tonight (March 3). What are your thoughts on the results and would you rate them a buy/sell/hold and why? If a hold, what would you see as a catalyst to get each of them moving? Thanks for all you do.
