Q: I have one income account where I have a core of stable companies (BNS, BCE etc.,) and strategically move into beat up names where the yields are temporarily very high due to what I anticipate to be a short term fall in the share price. Generally I am looking for something over 6% in this equation at the time of purchase. Do you see any candidates for such a strategy? Thank-you. Love your service btw. Best money I have ever spent.

Q: With all the risks out there in the investing world these days it's hard for me to decide on an investing strategy that I can trust enough that I will hold equities even as they react and go down when each new risk becomes noteworthy. I've decided that the best strategy for me is to develop a list of:
1. high quality
2. inexpensive stocks
3. that pay dividends that are sustainable through difficult times.
Based on this strategy what Canadian companies would you invest in now that fit the criteria? I would appreciate 8 of your top picks.

Q: Hi, This week's sharp decline in Pipeline ( ENB/TRP and Others) and Utility (FTS etc ) stocks - Do you think, it is a result of market's renewed fear of continued rate hikes into 2022/2023, as suggested by FED Chair on Friday and re-iterated by other FED Presidents over course of this week including Cleveland FED President, Mester, Today. Pipelines and Utilies sector has performed well this year, but may be, due to its higher yield, is causing some worry to investors. Your comments, co relation of high rates and other factors, impacting these sectors will be much appreciated. Would it be prudent to underweight the sectors, in near term. Thank You

Q: Hi, TRP and ENB had a bad day with both stocks declining 2.5%, by close. There was no specific news for either company. Oil was weak today and price dropped about $2.50-$3, during course of the day.
My understanding is that movement in oil prices has no direct impact on these stocks, in a meaningful way. XEG, on the other hand was down just less than 1%. Was TRP/ENB drop unusual ? Thanks

I know, Enbridge also has a utility like natural gas delivery business to residential/businesses, not sure of TRP. I have too many stocks and am starting to pare back. I have these five stocks in Energy. Which two would you sell? To which stock(s )would you add the cash from the sale.

Q: Hi, we have energy sector exposure through, CNQ,SU,TOU and ENB. There are several reasons for owning the sector through CDN companies, primarily for Dividend Tax credit in the Non Regd accounts and also their relatively lower risk profile and size. We have not invested in US Oil, and Gas/Pipeline companies, except a small holding in XLE.

CNBC guests/traders, frequently recommend the US companies listed in the question and it appears that all these stocks are doing well. ( OXY - with 20% ownership with Warren Buffet }. My question is that, in Canada, do we have Energy companies with similar product/business profiles to these US names. And, if so, for a Balanced 5i Portfolio risk profile investor, is the sector well represented with these four CDN companies ? Current Portfolio Weight: CNQ/SU/TOU: 9% ENB:6% Total-15%.

Wanting to dip my toe back into the market with a 2.6% total portfolio investment. My goal is to purchase stock in a Canadian company with a dividend >2%, that is anticipated to experience strong growth in the next 2 years and is not particularly volatile. Please rank the following on a scale of 1-10 for both growth and safety: MG, SLF, TCN, LNF, and IIP.UN. Q: I’m thinking of selling a position in Enbridge and buying Northwest Co.(NWC). I feel confident that NWC has a further pop from here comparing it’s P/E to it’s historical P/E. This is just a short term speculation trading idea. Other things I like are the management, recent insider buying by the CEO and price to sales ratio. I’ll still own Enbridge long term in my portfolio but this will be my first time looking into Northwest and just wanted your comments on my thoughts and on the pros and cons of Northwest. Thank you.
