Your advice?

Q: A retired friend of mine recently asked for my recommendations on how to invest approximately 200K which, with minimal risk, which will give him a reasonable (4.5% to 5.0%) annual dividend with minimal expectations of big capital growth, Since he currently has very little experience with investments, I would like to build a portfolio that will require minimal ongoing involvement on his part. I believe that a 10-15 year timeframe is realistic.

My thought is to split the 200K into 10 equal parts and purchase the following Canadian equities.

BNS
TD
GSY
CNQ
TOU
ENB
FTS
T
CCA
BEPC

I realize that a portfolio like this is overweight on energy. I'm comfortable with that.

What are your thoughts on this strategy and do you see any of the companies listed that you would avoid? Are there any others that you think should be added to the list?

Q: Hi Peter
I owned all 3 pipelines ENB, PPL, and TRP for dividends and slow capital appreciation;
all 3 have been declining in the last few weeks
are there any fundamental reasons ? I know that the prices of oil is weak and there are obstacles to try to build a pipeline from Alberta to BC , some talks for pipeline to the USA, I am looking for opportunity to add to my existing position, should I wait longer? is there a seasonal trade timing? Thanks
Michael

Q: Can I get a list of six good dividend paying stocks or ETF's that pay around 5%, that I can buy in my Canadian account but don't necessarily have to be Canadian. I am not concerned about sector but would like the dividend to be reasonably safe. Thanks.

Q: Questions on PPL:

- Can you please provide a bear and bull case for PPL?

- How is its balance sheet compared to TRP and ENB?

- Is PPL different enough from TRP and ENB that one could own all three?

- If one were to own all three (and if BIP.UN is also owned - which has pipelines too) what overall total percentage range of Pipelines would 5i be comfortable with?

Q: Hello 5I:

Would you start positions in any of the pipelines at this time and, if so, in what order and price?

With respect to GSY, what do you think it will take to get the stock moving upwards and what would a good entry price be?

Thank you for the great advice!

Q: Thank you for the invaluable service you provide and from which I heavily rely on. The following stocks are in my grandchildren's RESP account: ARX, CLS, CNQ, ENB, RY, SLF, TD, TOU, TVE, VHI and WSP.
I have cash to deploy and would appreciate five NEW stock ideas along with suggestions on which EXISTING stocks, if any, you would add to, both in descending order. (I just sold IFC and TRI, so am not interested in adding either of them)Thanks.

Q: My 31-year-old daughter would like to build a portfolio of income-paying investments within her RRSP, LIRA, and TFSA accounts, with the intention of reinvesting dividends through a DRIP over the years. Which six Canadian dividend-paying stocks would you recommend for this goal or would it be more effective to use dividend-focused ETFs instead? The primary objective is to build a portfolio that generates reliable income. Thank you.

Q: Hi there. I have a diversified portfolio that mixes growth & income stocks. I'm looking to boost dividend income in my non-registered accounts with hopes of some capital appreciation as well.

What would be your top 3 picks for Canadian dividend payers with a yield of >4% that are currently undervalued, or that have growth ahead of them over the next 3 years. We are already well invested in the financial space (banks, insurers), so would be great to hear your thoughts on companies in other verticals.

Thanks for the great advice!
Erick

Q: My daughter has the above investments in her regular account. She has now opened a TFSA and plans to contribute regularly. The horizon is long (money not needed for 10-20 years). Her portfolio is not very well balanced. Could you offer advice on 5-8 best stocks (Canadian or available on the NEO exchange) that would be promising investments whilst improving sectorial balance?

Q: My wife owns BCE, CU and ENB in her TFSA. She has a 10-20+ year timeframe.

Would you rate any of the three as a SELL or trim?

Can you suggest a replacement to BUY in the Industrial sector.

Can you explain the reasons for the BUY/SELL? Thank You.

Q: Question for the 5i team. Are there any buys that may prove to good holdings in recession. 2 or 3 us and or cdn. Thanks in advance for sage advise!

Q: Hello team.
The above are my highest dividend payers in my unregistered account, however at the end next year I have to start withdrawing from RRSP and LIRA account and would likely elevate my income to a substantially higher tax bracket. For that reason I am think of reducing my income generating holdings in the unregistered account and be less focus on income. Conversely, while divesting in the unregistered account I would rebalance the RRIF to be more income oriented. Does this make sense and could you suggest 5 growth oriented equities with SOME income to replace the above. I already TD,BNS,BN,BAM, TFII (small position)?
Thank you
Frank

Q: Hi,
Could you illustrate to us all what type of companies/stocks and/or sectors historically have performed the best ( or least worst ) over periods of recession/depression/stagflation and war times? And further, can you provide your top 5-10 CDN stocks that you think would do best in these situations, with at least half of them dividend payers please, if possible. Potential ETF and options strategies would be appreciated as well. Take as many points as you see fit.
cheers and thanks, Chris
