Q: Now that the WOOD PILE is getting bigger with once HIGH FLYING STOCKS, and the turtle moving utilities having a great year, how much farther with lower interest rates can these sleep at night stocks go.

Q: Do you have a preference between AEP and DUK? My objective is to add some stability and balance to an otherwise aggressive portfolio. I looked at FTS and EMA, but I have limited understanding of the Canadian market. If you believe a Canadian utility offers better growth potential, I would appreciate your insight and any suggestions you may have, given this objective. (Canadian taxpayer; this is for a tax-deferred acc).

Q: As a dividend investor could you give me 10 companies outside of Canada that have at least a 2% div. and some growth, sectors aside. Appreciate your service!

Q: Looks like there is going to have to be a large build out in electric transmission lines in the US. What companies stand to benefit the most?

Q: I bought NEE in a tax-deferred account because of fast-growing power demands by AI and other technologies (also because you liked it so much). It has been a frustrating business to hold, especially compared to other utilities like DUK and AEP. Did NEE become a victim of the current US admin’s pig-headedness about renewables ? NEE shares worth holding ? Analysts seem torn : several rate it a strong buy but almost as many rate it as hold/sell. Questions posed to different AI engines give responses that are just as conflicted.

What do you think of NEE’s business model and the prospects for share appreciation over the next 3 years vs. its peers? If possible, some in-depth comment would help . Please act as critical umpires who are now fed up (pretend if you must). If you have better ideas (preferably US , UK or Europe) I would welcome your suggestions.

Q: Hi,
I bought this to hedge against the kind of correction that one is witnessing right now! As part of my non-correlated asset. BUT it has been dropping almost as much as the market. Today, Monday April 21st 2025) it is down 3.14 % as I type this question, nearly the same as the market! And yet my Canadian utilities are holding steady. (H,EMA,FTS).
Can you suggest about 3-5 US Utilities that hopefully will act similar to Canadian utilities. To act as non-correlated asset?

It seems that for better or for worse utilities seem to have entred into a "union" with Technolgy sector, thanks to the perceived putative need for high energy demands !

Therefore utilites espcially in the US no longer have an inverse relationship with growth stocks. So it seems to me. I thought they will play the role of a "stabilizers" for my portfolio. That has not been the case.

Any thoughts? Should I consider something else (sector or stocks) to lower the volatility? Can you give me some names, say 3 to 5 stocks in the US utility sector that are NOT involved with AI energy demand craze?

My Canadian utilites fortunatlely remain "boring" and chugging along nicely :) Of course I can collect some nice dividends plus in my non-regd account, dividen tax credit helps!

Q: What ails AEP ? It has had scandals and blunders many years ago, but I thought they were over all that. Morgan Stanley added AEP to it s Global Dividend Fund just last month. I bought AEP only days ago and its down over 10% ; down 5% in the past 5 days. Unusual for a boring utility. I don’t see news bad enough to warrant such a drop , but seems something there could be rotten. What gives? Are complete idiots running AEP? Regulatory issues? Heat melting the already weak management brains? What is going on under the hood? Would appreciate your deeper insight, many thanks

Q: I wrote to you about US utilities on July 20,2020. Included in my question were : AEP (with DUK and SO).
AEP dropped about 4% this morning. I didn’t see any news today that is bad enough to affect the share price that much. All news items are two or more days ago. Do you see anything what caused the price drop? 4% is not trivial for a steady bond proxy.

In particular , would you change or update your answer to my July 20 question please? Thanks.

Q: Hi,

I purchased these utility and telecoms largely because of their low beta. In the recent downturn, they fell as much or more than hi growth stocks like SHOP, FB, AMZN or NVDA. AQN was down over 40%?? How do you account for that? Seems to me I'm better off ignoring 'safety' and going for growth?

Q: Is American Electric Power to expensive to buy at the current price?

Q: Can you suggest two or three US utility co's. that would be appropriate for a US dollar RRIF? I believe Ryan had mentioned one on market call, but I missed part of that broadcast.
