Q: For a 5-10 year hold within a TFSA could you please provide your top 10 Canadian stocks or CDR’s ranked by total return/compounding potential? For a non-registered account with a 3-5 year timeframe could you also do a top 10 list including both Canadian or US equities (no CDR’s), again ranked by total return/compounding potential? Thanks.

Q: Hi, after holding CVE for awhile and being under water, I'm finally nearly breaking even. After the new MEG deal, I wonder what people might think about selling it to get into other 'growthier' stocks long-term (like SHOP, LMN, PRL, for example, but open to other ideas as well).

Q: My tech component of my portfolio is 43% and want to rebalance my portfolio so tech is about 33%. In tech CSU is 33% NVDA 20% Shop 15% Rest are about 6% to 8%. Is there 1 or 2 I should sell due to overlap? What should I do?
Also is there an argument that shopify fits into the consumer discretionary space?
Also am I missing a tech name?

To what degree do you see potential for Canadian companies to be hamstrung for US operations in new creative ‘pay-to-play’ ways? It seems increasingly possible that anything is possible, especially where it doesn’t directly impact the US voter base.

Q: I'm going through some portfolio trimming. If restricted to 10 growth stocks today, what would be your choices?

Q: My tech holdings have once again climbed to a big part of my portfolio (37%). So it is time to trim/sell some holdings. Can you please rank the above holdings, favorite to least favorite right now. Portfolio allocation recommends 16 %, but i will probably aim for 25-30%. Does that sound reasonable? Tech companies seem to be the ones that are growing the fastest.

Q: good morning 5i,
I know that your usual response to selling when capital gains tax is involved is to sell down until you can sleep at night. Well, when I pay taxes I cannot sleep at night? What is the solution? Currently, with Shopify, Nividia, Meta etc, I have very high capital gains. Some are up to 10 or 12 percent of my portfolio. Should I just bite the bullet and sell down to a reasonable holding? or, just sell up through the end of my next tax bracket? I know these are impossible questions to answer. I had a worker going up on my roof the other day and I was surprised to see him having a very lively conversation with himself about how he should or shouldn't place the ladder. At first I thought this odd. But realising the danger of going straight up 30 feet in the air on a bouncy ladder, I thought it maybe not too stupid. Sometimes I feel that these are not the right questions to be asking you, as they are practically impossible to answer. But, maybe we are talking to ourselves like the ladder guy. You always end up having something useful to say, though, none the less.
