Q: Retired. This question is regarding the proposed June 25/24 tax changes.

I have unrealized capital gains of $110k and my wife has $30k. We also have a house worth roughly $5-600k.

4 questions:

1. My understanding is, upon the last death of my wife or I, the proceeds of the house will pass on to our beneficiaries (our kids)....tax free. Correct?

2. My wife's $30k unrealized CG isn't large enough to warrant being proactive. Agree?

3. My $110k unrealized CG is large enough to at least look into it further. My largest unrealized CG is in WSP (even though I have trimmed it 18 times) = $32k.

I see 2 options = #1 is do nothing because the house doesn't factor in and the $110k is well below the $250k threshold. #2 = sell some or all of WSP, then buy it all back the next day.

Any thoughts, knowing you can't provide personal advice?

4. Just to confirm, because WSP would be sold for a capital gain, there is no need to wait 30 days to rebuy....agree?

Thanks...Steve

Q: I have 1/2 to 2/3 positions in these four names. They pulled back recently and I am considering adding to make them full positions. Would you proceed today or wait for better prices? Any price targets to recommend.

Q: a sunlife life insurance policy was purchased for grandchildren as an investment for them on the advice of a financial planner- I am embarrassed to say so far $9000 in annual premiums has been paid, with 11 more remaining before the policy is paid in full. If I cancel this policy it will be a loss. However; the dollars which would have gone to sunlife could be used for a better investment. Your suggestions would be welcomed. Thank you- (P.S.- I submitted this ? a moment ago-but my screen went black so I don't no if the ? was sent the first time)

Q: Given the current direction of the Canadian economy, my goal is to focus the majority of my investments in the US. According to Portfolio Analytics, currently 53% of my portfolio is US, 46% Canadian (the remainder being international). I believe my US holdings are significantly under-rated given the Canadian stocks I hold. I would appreciate ballpark figures regarding the US/international component of the following TSX listed stocks: WSP, TFII, BIPC, BEPC, BAM, BN, and HPS.A. This will enable me to get a better handle on what my actual US/international holdings are. Thank you.

Q: Please comment on its most recent Q. It is still held in the growth portfolio yet it has been in a down trend since early 2022 from almost $60 to a current price of around $36. Do you still have patience with this one? Is it a buy, sell or , hold? Is there another name you would consider as a replacement with better growth?

Q: I would like to buy ATD (as 5i's stated: it is a great name at a discount price), and have long appreciated its growth trajectory and management seems very astute. However, in order to buy, I would need to sell something and since I am overweight Industrials, the name I come up with in my holdings is WSP. Which of the two names would you favour for a 5 year hold? My hesitation is what I understand to be a growing industrialization in Can and the US favouring WSP. Thoughts on this switch?

Q: Hi
I am looking at adding or making an initial purchase in the stocks listed. Could you rank these for me based on growth and sustainability. Are there any of these stocks that you would have concerns with purchasing for the short term-2 to 3 years? What would be the concerns?
Thanks, Len
