Q: Down approx 25% in each of Goog, Msft and Amzn. Down 45% in Meta. I have a 5 year window and am looking for total return and less volatility. I am inclined to keep the first 3 and switch Meta for Cost or Aapl. Please critique my plan. Thank you

I have been wondering whether Meta is a good choice given it’s recent fall. So, i was interested in your response to a question this morning. You seemed positively disposed towards the stock. Shortly after that i read a small piece by Cathy Wood’s Arkk, which is usually seen as willing to take risks. Someone said that she makes all or nothing bets. I was surprised to see that they see Meta as doing just that. I will post a short excerp. And would be very interested to know what you think of it:

Q: With the above four big tech companies above disappointing on earnings and being beaten up for it, is this the beginning of the tech earnings recession going forward? And do you think the stock market will begin to move more on earnings now and less on the actions or potential actions of the Fed? ie. if we want to buy these names would it be smart to sit on the sidelines now and let this play out for a while? Please take as many credits as you feel fit. Our portfolio is a hot mess. We’ve basically been ignoring this downturn for the past 6 months knowing we are are in for the long term. Retirement is 7-10 years out. The above holdings have fallen below a 1% weight in our portfolio. We have limited cash to deploy. Which of these would you add to? In what order? Any you would not add to and just hope that time allows for recovery? Any if these you would sell? For the ones that could be added too. Would you just buy now or put some stink bids in given the crazy volatility in markets? Any additional input is welcome.

I received a letter from Facebook about the Facebook Fair Fund FBFF. it's about their alleged misleading disclosures. I did have about $5400.00 in their stock at the times stated in the letter. I no longer have any shares. Do you think it is worth my pursuing?

Q: Are there any compelling reasons NOT to buy META at these prices (under ~$160 USD) for a long term investor? Very profitable, ~11x PE, ~7x cash flow. It is the same price as 5 years ago but the company has doubled revenues and profits since then. They are spending a lot on metaverse development and AI but Zuckerberg has always sailed the ship in the right direction. Huge user numbers and WhatsApp is barely monetized. It feels like all the bad news is baked into the price today (revenue decline of 1%, Sandberg leaving, metaverse capex). They are also buying back about 1% of the company per quarter at this valuation.

Q: Peter, for a portion of my portfolio I’m looking for companies with 8-10 bagger potential over the medium term, say 3 years. Please provide your 5 best cdn. and u.s. names for such potential gains. Regards Greg

Q: Some time ago i asked a question regarding the merits of holding a handful of us stocks along with my US etf’s, in order to get a little extra boost. You were ok with the strategy but cautioned against the kind of stocks I held i.e. Google, nvidia, msft, Costco, abbivie. While they were good stocks you said that the problem is that they are well represented in the various etf’s and that if i wanted a “kicker” to provide boost that I should go smaller in size. I wonder if you could provide a handful of stocks that would fit that criterion and would be ones that one would want to own long term. If they were also good candidates for selling options on that would be an added bonus. Thanks for your expertise and advice.
