Q: I am thinking of making the following move. Selling my TECH and then on the US side of my portfolio buying the top three from the fund. I am thinking MSFT, AAPL and GOOG. Do you agree with these three as the best of the six? And if not which would you switch out and why? Please note that for any buys that I am currently making companies need to be in a net cash or minimum debt situation. And am I right in presuming that I could claim the capital loss on TECH even though there is technically considerable overlap here? Thank-you.

Q: I have CCP corporation and would appreciate your recommendations for buy and forget stocks (moderate risk; 10-year hold). With such high dividend taxes in the CCPC, I would prefer stocks that pay a lower dividend or no dividend. Could you please recommend the 10 CAN and 5 US stock you would buy today, if you were starting this account?
Thanks for the great advise!!

Q: Good Morning 5i,
I would like your opinion on investing in CDR listings in Canada to gain exposure to the US market with much less of my investment dollars allocated to each individual stock. With the pull back currently going on in the markets the timing to go into the US when things settle down could be very good. If you like the CDR route, which stocks would you suggest to pick up? Please deduct whatever credits are necessary in order for you to give full consideration to my question. Thanks for your assistance!

Q: With the Nasdaq now down more than 15%, what would be your top 5 picks in the tech sector (both Canada and US) for growth given at least a 5+ year hold period?

I'm looking for stocks with great fundamentals that have just taken an unfair beating due to sector rotation and fear selling.

Q: At this time, what are your top picks (5 CDN, 5 US) for a 3-5 year hold in a registered account for an investor willing to take on an above average level of risk (but not high)? Sector does not matter. Thanks.

Q: A few weeks ago I asked about the virtues of owning XLE vs XEG. I ended up buying 5 postions in the following: TOU, KEL, WCP, ARX, TVE. Energy is now 3.5% of my overall portfolio.

My question is the following: for US exposure: may you please provide me your highest conviction name. If you had to chose between this US energy name an DIS for a total return in the next twelve months, which of the two would you side with?

Also, for the next twelve months, what portfolio allocation to energy would you deem optimal, given the current macro environnement?

Thank you and please deduct credits as you see fit.

Q: Conventional wisdom seems to be that growth stocks, esp. pricey hi-tech names, are being hit due to fears of interest rate increases. But some of these names don't seem to be directly vulnerable, with low/no debt, strong balance sheets to fund growth without borrowing, and products that wouldn't be especially vulnerable to rate increases for consumers (e.g. retail like shop or lspd). So what am I missing? Could you suggest 2 or 3 growth names that should be relatively safe, or at least bounce back quickly?

Q: Hello 5i!

So I am a little overweight in technology and feeling the burn a little over the last few months. I am considering re-balancing but am wondering about timing (I know, its impossible! lol)
You have commented that the Q4 is typically good for technology stocks so would you anticipate that they may see positive momentum in the next month or so? I realize you don't have a crystal ball but just based on general market patterns?

Also, what is the general window for Q4 earnings reports? ( end of Jan to end of Feb?)

Lastly, a sincere thanks for all you folks do. Your expertise, education and general good common sense have made a world of difference to the whole 5i community (and their families!).

Wishing you all a healthy and happy 2022.

Q: Hi 5i and Happy New Year!

I hold the above noted stocks/ETF in a TFSA.
The only 2 that are above water are Nanoxplore (GRA:CA) and PayPal (PYPL:US).
Question 1). Which would you recommend keeping?
Question 2). Which would you recommend selling?
Question 3). With ESG values in mind, what would be your top 3 CAD stocks and top 3 US stocks for this year's $6000 TFSA contribution?

Thanks for all that you do!

Q: It's time to make my annual TFSA contribution. The goal of my TFSA is long term capital appreciation utilizing a concentrated, high-conviction portfolio of US equities, with risk profile somewhere between that of the 5i Growth and Balanced portfolios.

Currently, my TFSA holds: ADBE, GOOG, FIVE, NVDA, PAC, PYPL, SLQT, TOL.

Are any of these in the 'don't need to be owned' category? I am looking at SLQT in particular, still languishing amidst ongoing legal woes. Should this be kept? If not, would you please suggest a replacement? If so, then which of these should I add to: ADBE, NVDA, SLQT, TOL? I am full/overweight the other positions. Please disregard sector and market cap considerations; I am fully diversified in my other portfolios.

Please deduct as many credits as deemed appropriate for a complete answer, thank you very much and all the best for 2022.
