Q: What would be your top Canadian tech picks to survive or thrive in a recession.

Q: Hello,

TRI recently announced an upcoming reverse split of their shares. This seems to to go against the usual practice of a reverse split whereby a low priced stock and out of favour stock (unlike TRI) will do one to drive up the price of their stock when it’s trading very low and in risk of being delisted as was the case of Bombardier recently and JDS Uniphase many years back. I’m having difficulty understanding why TRI would not just buy back shares via an NCI as opposed to a reverse split. Also, when is the reverse split scheduled and if I was to buy 10 shares tomorrow, how many of those shares would I have after the reverse split and would the price of TRI increase as a result of the reverse split as is normally the result of a reverse split. Q: I have been fortunate to own the above names, some for not as long as I wish I did. When you look at their 10 year charts they are impressive. Can I ask you to list a few more Canadian and perhaps several U.S. stocks that maybe also pay a small dividend but that you consider must own names for long term growth? (I do own BN as well). In my portfolio, here our my top holdings, Csu 8.3%, Wsp 7.6%, Nvda 6.9%, Cost 6.8% and Tri 6.4% .

Within a "balance" portfolio, please provide for each stock the % you would hold for before trimming.

Q: May I have your thoughts on $TRI

Q: With respect to the reverse split and opting out of it, I was just told by a broker at an institution that I deal with that you cannot opt out of it. The company has made the decision to do the reverse split. This broker put me on hold and confirmed his advice with his superiors.
My wife was speaking to her broker who she has known for years and he advised that if she had TRI with him, he would provide the documents to opt out. Does this mean some brokers will accommodate an opt out and some will not?

Q: Followin on the other question regarding TRI, if you held it, would you opt out or take the cash?

If you're a patient investor, opting out seems like the way to go but interested in your thoughts as that doesn't seem to be the default. An investor has to take a positive step to opt out.

Q: Re your answer to Warren on the 4th. You referred us to a diagram link and it showed both options net the shareholders with value of $12.500.

So I see no net benefit in pursuing their optional plan.

Am I missing anything? Is one better than the other and I don't see it?

Q: Is the TRI reverse split effectively a share buyback? What are the advantages to this approach as opposed to a NCIB? Do you view this news as a strong positive for the stock or this basically neutral?

Q: At the time of this question, I haven't yet seen anyone ask about TRI's move today. Great about the special dividend, but I haven't been able to turn up anything about what constitutes their 'share-consolidation.' Sounds somewhat ominous. If you have some detail, it would be greatly appreciated.

Q: Just a follow up to my prior question. I was under the impression that Kxs is very expensive . Can you please give me an idea of whether you would consider if it was or not and what the numbers tell you.

Also, when you answer questions about stocks to buy you rarely mention TRI. This stock also has done amazingly well this 12 months +15%. How do you rate TRI as a buy at these prices and compared to other stocks you like?
