Q: Hi 5i,
As part of my continuing education could you explain something for me, and also answer a question re ETFs.?
In looking over DOL I notice that in its last 11 quarters it beat expectations 6 times and missed 5 times. Two days after all 6 of those beats the share price fell, sometimes substantially, and two days after all 5 of those misses the share price rose, sometimes substantially. I've also noticed this same dynamic at work with other companies. It seems counter-intuitive to me and I wonder if there's an explanation that's widely applicable for why the share price would move up on a miss and down on a beat. (Maybe it has to do with 2 days after a quarterly report being too short a period to draw any conclusions from, but if that's the case why would the two day movement be recorded and reported in the first place - by CIBC Investor's Edge in this case?)
And second question - could you identify what you think are the best CDN ETFs holding consumer defensive names?
Thanks,
Peter

Q: Hello 5i team,
With the short attack on lightspeed, how accurate/right has been Spruce Point Capital in the past? Are they the same firm that shorted Dollarama a few years back?

Thanks,
Andrew

Q: Hi, I need to harvest realized gain of approx. $15000. I plan to repurchase the above funds after 30 days. Are there any that you would not sell at this point?
Or after the 3rd quarter results?
Thank you for your excellent service.

Q: Hi team,

Two questions in one. Currently own DOL and MG for consumer cyc stocks. Although both have headwinds in the next year or so, I am more frustrated with DOL. Can you please suggest a large, medium and small cap which 5i really likes in that space to replace DOL.

Second, I hold XAW in my rsp, they also offer XAW.U.ca. Would it make sense to sell XAW and buy the .U version. Adding another layer of diversification in currency?

Thank you
Rino

Q: We are looking to create a 'growth' portfolio using our TFSA accounts. This portfolio will represent a small portion of our overall investments. The portfolio will hold ~10 Canadian and ~10 US stocks. All purchases in the portfolio will be made with the intent to be long-term holds (10+ years).

Using the 5i research reports, model portfolios and Q&A section, we've selected the listed Canadian stocks. Please rank these stocks and suggest any tweaks, additions or subtractions, you might make. As well, please suggest a companion list of US stocks. Thanks!

Q: Hi. I have decided to add an equal position of each of the above to my portfolio. These companies will even out my exposure among sectors. I have room in both my tax free account and my rrsp account. (RRSP won't be accessed for 18 - 20 years) I guess what I'm asking is would it be more advantageous to put any of the above in a tax free account vs an rrsp account?

Q: Just looking for an opinion,

In what scenario does this ever get back to it's glory days before the oil fallout years ago? I have owned this for sometime in a TFSA and wondering if I should just keep holding due to not being able to harvest tax loss or take the loss and move the proceeds into something else in a different industry where over time I could recoup the loss.
