Q: Russia's gas cuts are threatening the world's largest Chemicals Hub in Europe. BASF has said it may have to shut down plants if gas supplies fall further. Assuming this raises chemical prices world-wide, are there any public Canadian or US companies that might benefit? Is Methanex one of them?

Q: Happy Friday! Can you recommend two names in Canada you feel can benefit most from the current environment. 2 Energy and 2 Basic Materials - I have 3.6% of my portfolio exposed to energy and only 0.8% in BM. Happy to add to current positions. Long term investor (7-10 yrs) with higher risk profile.

Q: Does this stock have further runway in the current commodities environment or is it time to cash in?
Q: Can I get the outlook on Park Lawn now that the pandemic is almost behind us.

Q: 2 Questions related to Canadian stocks paying dividends in USD:
(1) I want more US cash and plan to have Questrade journal over the above CA stocks to the US equivalent in a TFSA. Is there any special considerations here when doing this? Best to do this on a day when the Canadian dollar is stronger?
(2) In a margin account, Questrade journaled over AQN:CA to AQN:US on February 3/22. I have held AQN:CA for more than 1 year and sold all of AQN:US today at a small loss. Will CRA see the later loss as a superficial loss, because the US listed stock was held for less than 30 days? Thanks!

Q: Methanex is on a bit of a run here. Given that it’s cyclical and natural gas costs are high (input cost), would this be a time to harvest gains and deploy elsewhere or does it have further room to run? Price hit $100 a few years back, if I recall correctly.

Q: I would like more USD for travelling to the US. I hold all of the above stocks at Questrade, in both registered and unregistered accts. I asked Questrade to please pay the dividend directly in USD (as paid by the companies), but they said "We would have to journal your positions over to the USD equivalent in order to receive the dividends in USD." Should I journal over the CAN shares to the US equivalent; eg AQN.TO to AQN.US? It would involve a very large amount of money, could I expect a better USD exchange rate with greater volume or would they simply use the day's spot rate?
Q: Omitting sectors, which stock MX, ANRG or NTR do you believe has the most potential upside. Risk is not an issue.

Q: Hi 5i team,
May I please have your review of Methanex's fourth quarter results. Also provide outlook for next few years, and would continue to hold given the cyclical nature of the company.
Thx

Q: I have some extra USD money from a small US pension that is used for going to Florida in the winters. Since we have not gone in the last two years, I would like to put some of it in our TFSA. My questions are, if I buy say TD on the NY stock exchange would the dividend in US dollars be subject to 15% withholding tax. Could you please give me several companies I could buy into if this is true. Could you also give me several US companies or ETF's that would give me a dividend and hopefully growth for a long term hold. Thank you for all the help I get for being a member. Gary

Q: Good morning, I have 32 positions spread between the two TFSA's that I manage. I'd like to get that down to 25. The above are holdings that have fallen to less than half positions and I'm wondering if you could suggest 6 or 7 for removal. Also are there any that you would add to in order to bring them up to half positions. Secondly, without knowing my weightings, do you have a suggested sector or two for this years TFSA contribution?

Q: Hi 5i,
I'm new to the service and joined with the hope of finding an unbiased second opinion on my portfolio of stocks. I had the good fortune of purchasing in my TFSA SHOP ($1200); LSPD ($26.31); SE ($149); MELI ($769.45) and continue to hold. This year, not so good, I had purchased REAL ($18.16); ABST ($13.79); AT ($10.36) which with the exception of MX are all currently in the red.
My problem is that given my current YTD is at -13% I should probably shake up the TFSA. However, when I look at each stock individually I just can't bring myself to sell, I love the growth potential of them all.
I'm (obviously) ok with volatility in my portfolio and I do not anticipate needing the funds for 3+ years. I would appreciate your thoughts or ranking of these stocks in terms of growth potential from this point forward. Are there better stock opportunities I should consider out there for my TFSA ?
Thank you in advance.

Q: Where do you see Methanex and LMT going forward?
Do you still see them as a good hold for the next 2 years?

Q: What is causing the current weakness in Methanex ? I have had success with it in the past and your fairly recent comments are positive so am considering picking some up at todays price. Any benefit to buying in US$ other than retaining dividends in US$ without losing on currency exchange ?
Have been with 5I since inception and am very happy with your insight.

Q: Hello 5i Team,
I've done very well with Methanex, thanks to its recent strength.
I don't view it as a long-term hold, but I am prepared to let it run it a bit longer.
What's your take on the company and methanol looking ahead the next 3 to 6 months?
As always, appreciate your insights.
Marc.

Q: Hi 5i,
Please provide current outlook for MX. I know (painfully) the company is highly cyclical and I would like to know if there is any runway left? Given latest stock strength how does reaching 1 year high of $62 look to you in your crystal ball on the scale of 1 (low) to 10 (high)? What do the methanol futures tell you?
Please deduct as many credits as you see fit.

Q: Dear 5i team,
My TFSA is not well balanced, and I am also trying to get the allocation mix correct in my RRSP too.
I have MX in my TFSA which is $1000 in the red. I have no technology in my TFSA- would it be smart to take the MX loss to take advantage of TOI’s likely growth - while getting to a better balance in sectors at the same time?
Thank you for your thoughts on this possible tactic, appreciated!
