Regardless of sectors what is the top 5 stocks both In Canada + US you would buy when and if we have a downturn, Do you think we will see a significant downturn or do you recommend nibbling away on swings. Today (rightly or wrongly), I used the large uptick in the share price of CAE to sell my position that's held in my TFSA. (I sold with a gain of 4%, not counting the previous dividends.) I feel that the "airline" sector will still be under pressure after the present euphoria settles down, but who knows?

Having said that, please suggest two or three stocks or ETFs from each of the following sectors that could be considered somewhat defensive as well as being suitable for a TFSA. Portfolio Analytics indicates that I'm underweight in:
Basic Materials
Communication Services
Consumer Defensive
Energy
Financial Services
Healthcare
Industrials

Q: I’ve patiently held GUD for 4 years now without it doing much. Could you recommend 1 or 2 replacements from the Healthcare sector in the U.S. ?

I don’t understand the healthcare business myself, so I’m looking for a company with solid management that I can invest in, and then just forget about it for years to come.

Q: Looking at some of the data under the company tab, I see good profitably ratios but the book value is negative and the return on equity is -111. %. What does a negative ROE mean - is at an artifact of the negative book value?

Q: I would like your advice on my Healthcare Portfolio. Currently, we own IHI, SYK, PFE, BMY, ZTS , LHCG. My watchlist includes names that you have also recommended. Please rank your top healthcare preferences [could include others] 5 or 6 names overall [ growth at reasonable price, with rationale, if possible.

Q: I would like your help putting together a yield portfolio of between 15 and 20 names.
This would be the entire investments for my wife and I. We are both retired and now live full-time in the U.S. And at some point I expect my Canadian newspaper pension to disappear, so I am looking to replace that money.
I would like your opinion of the above names with regard to safety of the income and overall diversification.
I would also appreciate some additional ideas and would like to know if I`m off base on any or all of these names.

Q: What are some of your favorite US growth names right now? I am a younger investor with some money to deploy. I have a 20+ year time horizon. I am not too worried about sector allocation due to having a defined benefits pension when I eventually retire (20+ years).

Q: HI there,

Two part question here. First, why is EXAS (in your opinion) being crushed so badly? It has fallen much more than GH. Something fundamentally wrong or one you would expect to bounce back hard and is thus worth adding to.

Secondly, would you suggest taking a 50% loss on EXAS to move to something like ABBV that pays a 7%+ dividend and seems safer? Jim Cramer advocates selling some stocks to move into more premium stocks that are also down and I'm wondering if this would be an example.

Please feel free to take 2 credits and provide complete answers to each part.

I need to increase the following: ABBVIE, CCL, AQN. ENB. LSPD. and TCL. Some like LSPD I hold as a satellite as I am mostly a value investor but will take advantage of your suggestions on a good growth opportunity but smaller scale than my value equities. Please list the above in the order that I would slowly increase these holdings by $2,000 at a time.

Q: Can you comment on OSTK? After a big drop, the stock started to go up. Is it a good time to buy? I am consider adding OSTK and ABBV in my RRSP portfolio. ABBV has a high dividend yield. I think it would be great hold in RRSP account.

I had limited Healthcare exposure (only from small positions in VXUS and VGRO). Recently added Abbvie and Pfizer on price weakness. Combined these 2 equal about 5% of my Holdings.
3 questions:
1-Comments on ABBV latest quarter? (Seems good)
2-Good Entry point for these companies for a long term hold?
3-Do these 2 companies compliment each other well or should I consider adding another stock or ETF for more Healthcare exposure?
