Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Would you recommend using investment money to help pay off a line of credit? That money would be coming from a tfsa. If so, from the list provided, please list the top 5 stocks in order that you would sell?

APPLE and MSFT would be sold at a loss.

Thanks for everything

Q: Hello, I am underweight Consumer Defensives, currently having only a small position in Costco.

Could you rank your favourite ideas in this sector with growth potential and current valuation as important criteria?

Thank you, Doris

Q: Happy New Year to all at 5i.

It's time to once again figure out how to invest this year's TFSA contribution in my growth orientated portfolio. Like most Canadians, I probably have quite a home country bias so I thought for 2023 I would look at US companies available through CDRs to avoid currency conversion expenses. (I do already own GOOGL, CRWD & PINS). I wonder if you can suggest 3 or 4 USA growth companies that are available as CDRs.
Thanks
David

Q: Hi:

Are you able to list a few factors that let Costco trade at P/E of ~37X while TD Bank trades at ~9.5x and pays a superior dividend to Costo? It "feels" like TD is a bargain but obviously day after day someone / some algorithm feels Costco stock provides equally good value.

Thank you!

Q: I am looking recommendation for a solid long term Canadian growth stock, that one can largely purchase and forget it. This is for my grandchildren's portfolios which currently have a core holding of VEQT and small satellite positions in MICROSOFT, COSTCO and Visa. The portfolios are expected to be held for a very long time. I do monitor the positions currently on a quarterly basis.

Any thoughts on this approach and possible securities that would fit the bill?

Q: Hi, holding these three as my staples holdings. Current weights:

ATD - 2.44%
COST - 2.37%
PBH - 1.30%

Thinking of selling the laggard PBH and adding to ATD/COST or just maybe COST. What do you think about this? Is PBH a buy, sell, or hold? Can you compare the three in terms of valuation and which would be best going forward for growth.

Thanks!

Q: Down approx 25% in each of Goog, Msft and Amzn. Down 45% in Meta. I have a 5 year window and am looking for total return and less volatility. I am inclined to keep the first 3 and switch Meta for Cost or Aapl. Please critique my plan. Thank you

Q: Portfolio Analytics is saying I need to increase consumer cyclical and defensive holding. Can you give me a couple of stocks in Canada and the United States with steady dividends and low risk. And a couple of ETF's too.

Thanks Greg
