Q: We are planning to set up a separate investment account for our grandkids. Assume a 10 year hold. There are a few sectors we would want to overweight - 3 stocks, CAD or US, in Financials, Industrials, Technology and 1-2 stocks in the others. What would you look for and how would that translate into individual stock selections.

Q: Morning 5i, thanks for the continued great info; we own IMO and CNQ; what's your opinion for a smaller co to join this group; ie: WCP or TOU ? Is there another you like instead ? Besides the need for the resource the higher yields should attract capital with rates trending down. Thank you.

Q: Good Day

I know I have an apple and an orange here but... I have a 1/2 position in CNQ and am into DOO at $100/share. I think I can get a quicker return by selling DOO and buying the other 1/2 position in CNQ. What does 5I think on as it pertains to the possibility of getting a quicker return over say the next 3 years.

Q: In the Energy sector, ENB has done quite well over the past 6 months. The opposite has occurred for the producers, such as CNQ and CVE. Is it worth rotating from pipelines like ENB into the producers?

Q: Hi All at 5i! I have 44K in CPD in a non registered account which provides me monthly income via dividends. I prefer a stock which pays a decent dividend but also offers some growth. I would like to sell my CPD which has given me no growth and reinvest in better growth/ dividend paying stocks. Could you offer me the names of 5 such stocks?.
Cheers,
Tamara

Q: Hello 5i team,
Welcome your feedback on PKI vs. CNQ and ATD moving forward? I've held PKI on and off for 11 years. I'm sitting with a 9.4% per annum total return and a 25% cap gain on cost. Plenty of drama between hostile shareholders and board. Shares appear dramatically undervalued. When comparing to CNQ and ATD (also holding) I'm considering abandoning PKI and investing proceeds into more CNQ and ATD. Pay the tax and move on reluctantly... Can you share your thoughts on this notional transaction vs. holding on to PKI while still quite "undervalued" to wait/see how the drama plays out or just move on? Thanks for your opinion and all you do.

Q: Hi 5i team,

My question is on CNQ. They have a dividend growth rate of something like 20% annually over the past 20 years, which is remarkable.

Realizing that past performance is no guarantee of future returns, how would you evaluate the company's dividend growth prospects for next 20?

If you were to assess it on a confidence scale of 1-10, based on what you know of the company, what would your assessment be?

Thanks!
Ryan

Q: Hi, Oil prices have been weak and the Energy sector, lately has not been trading well. E&P Companies have been under more pressure, compared to Integrated ones. We own both SU and CNQ (combined weight 8%) and have been quite happy with their operational/financial performance and generous plans for return of capital to shareholders. However, it's not clear, how Oil prices, Demand/Supply dynamics and geo-political factors are likely to play out over near and long term, impacting their profitability/growth and share prices. Could you please share your views.

1. If outlook for Energy is likely to remain uncertain, in near term and we want to limit risk of further drawdown by cutting exposure to the sector ( and raise some cash ), which of the two would you reduce first and why ?

2. Should seasonal factors (winter) or US Elections influence the timing of such action ?

Thank You

Q: Hi,

If you were to add to one's existing positions, which order would you add for medium (3 yrs) and long (3-5 yrs) term. All of them have suffered from recent pull back.

Strangely my holdings in USD seem to have suffered more than than the same holdings in CAD. For example VRN/CVE. Is this due to arbitrage trades as you suggested in one of your previous answers to another subscriber? Or due to the vagaries in currency fluctuations?

Lastly, your top picks in O&G today?

Q: you recently answered a question on august 13 about higher / better / safer quality dividend stocks with yields in the 3-5 % range (vs going after yields over 6 %).

Q: hi 5i,
NTR,T,MG? I own these blue chip laggards. can you recommend them as BUY,HOLD, or SELL please. If any are a sell, could you suggest a few replacement names (CDN) with similar dividend yield and more (hopefully) share price growth potential? I am fine holding all for long term if you think the weakness is just cyclical.
cheers, Chris
