Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Hello, I recently sold my rental property in 2022, and I now have funds sitting in the bank, earning interest. My ultimate goal is to invest this money wisely and create a portfolio that can serve as an inheritance for my loved ones. I am currently in the process of assembling a collection of high-quality stocks.

For me, the presence or absence of dividends is not a decisive factor when selecting stocks. Could you kindly recommend two top-performing stocks in each sector of the global market? These core holdings will play a crucial role in achieving my long-term financial objectives.

As of now, I have already purchased shares in NVIDIA (NVDA), Meta, Intuitive Surgical (ISRG), Alphabet (GOOGL), Canada: Goeasy (GSY), Nuvei (NVEI), Definity Finacial (DFY), Boyd Group(BYD), Thomson Reuters (TRI), Aritzia (ATZ), and Nutrien (NTR).

Thank you in advance for your valuable insights.

Q: Long term holding and price appreciation of AAPL and NVDA has led to a U.S. portion of a registered portfolio weighting of 28% and 17% respectively. I'd like to take some profits on these positions and trim these weightings to diversify. Please provide your top suggestions for replacements to consider in Health, Consumer, IT, Communication, and Financial sectors with a timeframe of 10years+

Q: We have been on a bit of a wild ride as of late with our Communication names (certainly preferred Roku nearing $500 and AT around $30).

Currently we are down 73% on AT, 66% on PINS, 64% on ROKU, 55% on EGLX and 18% on TTWO.

Essentially just wanting to confirm that you would not consider averaging down on any of these names at present given a lack of positive momentum. We have the names in a TFSA and have 5+ years and high risk tolerance. Of these names, what would have on watch to slowly add to and what would you sell?

Thank you.

Q: The large toy companies have warned there will be big shortages of toys this fall and winter and that prices will be higher. What industries will be the winners and losers? If people choose not to spend on toys where do you think that money will be spent on, assuming it will be spent?

Q: Hi 5i,
ATVI reported earnings today and shares are down over 5%....and considering initiating 2% position for 3 year hold.

How were the earnings and how do you view company going forward? What is your opinion on this company and would you be interested in starting a new position?

Why/why not and if so, what would you consider good entry price.....Suggestions for alternatives in same space?

Thx
jim

Q: Hi. There seems to be some confusion between a “ gaming “ company and a “ gambling “ ( or betting ) company. For example, EGLX is involved in gaming while WYNN is involved in gambling. Two very different activities. Derek

Q: First of all, thank you for your amazing work. Cannot express how helpful my 5i subscription has been. Life-changing in all honesty.

My positions in LSPD (17.3%) and GSY (12.7%) have gotten a little out of hand. I was fortunate to pick them up near their lows in April. I've already trimmed both a couple of times, but I am really struggling to sell more given the positive outlook 5i has of both for the future. I've seen similar questions asked about trimming and selling positions with phenomenal growth and seen your responses suggesting to trim positions to reasonable weightings. I thought I might have an easier time doing so if you suggested some positions to add to or some new ones viewed as favourably as LSPD and GSY.

I have the following companies in a TFSA and have included the weightings only of positions I think might warrant a second look. While I anticipate a comment about weightings needing to be personal what would YOU suggest as the highest weighting for LSPD and GSY? And, again, please suggest some positions to add to or new ones.

Feel free to take question credits as you see fit.

DOO (2.1%), ATZ (2%), AW.UN, BYD
ATD.B
BMO, BRK-B:US, GSY (12.7%)
WELL (4%), VEEV:US (1.3%)
CAE, DAL:US, AC (1%), XBC (3%)
LSPD (17.3%), KXS (7.6%), DSG (3%), CSU, PHO (1.1%), AMD:US, CRWD:US (2.4%), U:US (2.1%), NVDA:US (0.83%), TTD:US(1.2%)
ROKU:US (1.9%), TTWO:US (1.2%), PINS:US (1.5%)
AQN, BEP.UN
REAL

Thank you again

Q: Hi,

Which would you buy for the long term or is there a better choice? I'm surprised at the low beta of both ATVI and TTWO as I don't like volatility.
Would you wait or buy now?

Q: Hello team,

Is it worth paying 80 times the earning for TTWO. Their Redemption II game seem to getting a lot of attention from reviewers and I thought it might be a good time to pick up some shares in this market downturn. Given their balance sheet would you choose them or would you prefer something else in this arena.

Have a wonderful week and thanks as always!

Q: Hi 5i,
I know very little about the video game and e-sports industry in general so I would like to get your thoughts on it.

As a possible entry into this area Activision Blizzard has been mentioned a couple of times over the last few days on BNN. Would this be one of the better stocks to invest in in this sector?

I have also heard mention of EA and TTWO but once again I know very little about this sector and these stocks so I would like to get your opinion. Are they worth considering?

Thanks. Love your service!
Brian
