Q: Hi,

I am looking at investing new cash and at this time wish to purchase non-US and non-Canadian companies. I know you don’t typically cover the non-North American markets but you have frequently commented on GRMN, NBIS and ASML.

Would you have any other suggestions for outside NA equities, regardless of sector, that represent good long-term potential total returns?

Your opinion and suggestions please.

There seems to be a consensus emerging that China and the emerging markets in particular will outperform the US markets. Do you think the same? I understand that 5i does not research international markets. Nonetheless I would appreciate it if you could suggest sectors and stocks from China and elsewhere; within your knowledge sphere.
I heard the German Chancellor in Davos mentioning deregulatory reforms as well as refrain from looking at outside capital markets(US) as a source of capital. And I believe that Trump threatened Europe with retaliation if they sold off US assets. The dollar has ben weak and probably goes even lower. That should bode well for international markets.
It would be great for us subscribers if 5i expanded its research even if limited, to international markets, particularly China. Any chance of that happening in the near future?

Q: Currently the Chinese market is on track for its 4th down year in a row, which is pretty rare for a global market. The contrarian would say that this pendulum has to swing back the other way at some point here. Fundamentals on many large names have detached from expectations, with names like BABA, TCEHY, etc showing FCF near record highs while share prices are at multi year lows. How do you feel about investing in these names, and if you did recommend any which would they be? Thx

I own these 5 equities in my USD account, plus a reasonable amount of cash that could be deployed. im fairly comfortable with all of them, are you? if I was to shift to an all growth strategy within this account, what would you suggest selling ( if any ), and what would you suggest buying, either new names or current holdings ( with a reasonable target purchase price, if able )? Q: I understand that you don't follow chinese companies, but I was hoping that you could help me understand the mechanics around the split of BABA into its 6 business units.

If one of the business units has a successful IPO, do BABA shareholders get stock dividends of the new publicly traded company? Or does it remain as a subsidiary with BABA as the majority shareholder?

Q: Everyone, as the press release this morning indicates Alibaba will be splitting into six companies. The news will have a short term bounce for the stock but does it have a long term benefit? If it has a long term benefit what is the increase in the returns due to the split. This same strategy could be used for any company so if there is a long term benefit why does all other companies not prefer to split to generate benefits for their shareholders. Clayton
