Q: Hi,
We own no crypto stocks. I feel that we should have some exposure in our portfolio. Now there has been a bit of a pull back… I cannot decide on what combination of stocks or ETF’s (cnd or US$) to buy in this sector for total portfolio weight of approximately 4-5%. What 3 combination of companies and/or ETF would you buy for a balanced exposure to the sector.
Thanks for all that you do!
K.
Q: Further to my last question about Tether, the Financial Times is also reporting the following:
Crypto-hoarding companies are ditching their holdings in a bid to prop up their sinking share prices, as the craze for “digital asset treasury” businesses unravels in the face of a $1tn cryptocurrency rout.
Can you please provide some context around what’s going on in the crypto space lately and any thoughts about where it goes to from here?
Q: What are your thoughts on the recent S&P Global Ratings downgrade on Tether? As reported in the Financial Times:
The rating agency warned that the company has “limited transparency on reserve management and risk appetite, lack of a robust regulatory framework [and] no asset segregation to protect against the issuer’s insolvency”.

Q: Critics are so frequent (and factors well explained) concerning covered call ETFs or covered call ETFs + leverage . My own experience is surprisingly positive since I keep about 10-20 % of those specialized ETFs( carefully selected though) in my portfolios , the results are excellent since, after 2-5 years , most of them show significant capital gain (often up to 50%) and no decreased NAV ..What strategy ( ETF vs stocks,or covered call ETF,ETF+leverage) do you suggest for a long term dividend investor ?
I've noticed in recent exchanges a renewed interest in the CSU family. For a relatively conservative investor, wouldn't it be more prudent to focus on the parent company rather than spreading capital across all three companies in the group?
Q: A number of Small/Mid caps seem to be finding a bottom and rebounding nicely over the last week.. I have small positions in these names, what order would you be adding to these names at current pricing? Is there any you wouldn’t add to?
Q: XLV had a good run. Would you buy it here or wait for a pull back, Do you think that the healthcare sector has more momentum to the upside?
Thank. Cheers
Q: When the offer from Anglo to acquire Teck first came out I believe you were of the opinion that another offer may come out or that the Anglo offer could be amended. I took that to mean that one should hold onto their Teck shares to see how things shake out even though you prefer CS and LUN to Teck.....did I understand you correctly? With BHPs recent moves, things seem to be getting interesting in this space. If you were holding Teck what would you be doing 1) sitting tight waiting for clarity or 2) selling now and moving on to better opportunities - if so would CS and Lun still be your recommendations?
Can you support a buy on EAT even after today's major uptick? Is comparable sales and foot traffic growth enough to support growth over the long term (3-5 years)?
Q: Hi 5i,
Presently below water on the 3 above stocks. Would you hold on today for dividend on these and hope they come back or let go for something more promising? What replacements might be better right now? Thanks.

Q: I am considering VEE within a Non-Registered Account and wondering about the consequences in doing so.
- Regarding the impact on my OAS clawback: I don't believe that VEE's current 2.26% dividend is grossed up like Canadian dividends. However, it would be treated like regular income and there is also a slight withhold tax. So to me net-net, with focus on its affect on the OAS clawback, it would appear that holding VEE in this account would have a slight edge compared to holding a Canadian dividend-payer. Would this be correct?
- Regarding Tax Form T1135: Vanguard is a U.S. company, but VEE trades on the TSX. Does VEE need to be included when considering Foreign Income Verification on T1135 ? Or does the fact that it trades on the TSX exempt it?
