Q: Understanding that we are currently seeing significant negative sentiment and volatility, can you please rank your current top Cdn and U.S. quality-name buying opportunity candidates that will reward patient investors with 3-5 year time horizons?

Q: Want to beef up my finacials. I own SLF, TD, BAM.A and X . Trying to decide between 1. Buying BNS ( new position), 2. topping up my 4 existing more or less equally, or 3. putting it all into just 1 of the current 4 ( likely SLF as TD and BAm are already a big holding, jury is still out for me on X). Long term holds, balanced/income hybrid portfolio follower.

Q: I currently own the following banks (weightings): TD (5%), BNS (5%), BMO (2%). I'm assuming that swapping BMO (and its 2% weighting) for GSY would be better diversification, correct ?

Would this move create a big exchange of risk ?

Could GSY survive a prolonged economic downturn - eg. is the housing bubble a risk ?

Is today's valuation already pricing in a potential "tough lending environment" ?

In that scenario, would they have an adequate balance sheet survive ?

Q: 3 questions

What is the annual return for ENB since it went public when you include dividends & largest drawdown?

Would a 20% position in ENB for a retired person looking for income make sense?

What are the 5 safest Canadian & US stocks that would provide the best protection against drawdowns?

Q: When looking at historical Canadian bank returns, BNS has lagged significantly. I didn't isolate too many periods, but the longer term you go, the more consistent the underperforming becomes. I understand the past isn't an indication of the future, but perhaps their approach to international exposure just isn't the way to go? There appears to be a lot of conviction for BNS relative to others, does it's poor stock growth relatively not concern 5i? What keeps you the most confident on BNS? If you jumped ship on BNS, which would be the next on that would be in your model portfolios?

Q: Good morning,
Just saw in my news feed that RY missed expectations. Means another blood bath for the banks? Should one wait before backing up the truck and loading up? How long should one wait for the dust to settle? I know RY,TD &BNS are your favorite picks.

If you can add a few sentences in the US banking sector, not would be appreciated.
Many thanks.
Mano.

Q: B of M is trading at a PE of below 8 with a decent yield. Why is trading at a relatively low PE ? Is it more financially exposed to the a recession? Were you you rank it amongst the Cdn banks ?

Thank you

Q: What 4-5 Cdn Companies would go good with this group if looking to balance things out a bit (more growth focus vs income). A couple of stocks I had in mine include: BAM.A, DOO, MG, DOL. Do any of these stocks seem like they w/b a good fit/mix or our there others that you think would be better choices?

Q: TD and BMO recently issued preferred shares. TD 5 Year Rate Reset Series 28 yielding 7.232%, reset 4.2%. BMO 5 Year Rate Reset Series 50 yielding 7.376%, reset 4.25.
Both press releases both include the line "will issue to certain institutional investors"
Can retail investors purchase these? The rate and reset seem fantastic based on the quality of the issuers.

Q: Good morning everyone at 5i! You have always said that you can’t time the market. I am going on the premise that the market is close to the bottom, and it is time to slowly start to add some names to the portfolio and to add to existing ones. Could you please suggest 5 growth and 5 income stocks ( US or Canadian) which you consider good buys at this point on time? Cheers, Tamara

Q: I have a little to spend and am looking amongst the solid Canadian and US companies that you most recommend for long-term stability and growth.

Specifically though, I'm looking for these companies that seem underpriced and that have been doing well in their buyback policy.

Q: I've been sitting on my Q2 div revenues waiting for things to settle a bit. Looking to add to one off the 3 positions X, TD, SLF. Balanced/Income portfolio follower, moving towards income follower. 5+ yr hold. Conversely if there is a holding in the Income portfolio that is a screaming buy right now I would consider adding to that position or starting a new position if I don't already own it.

Q: With the ongoing price swings and volatility, I am looking to add a couple good dividend stocks with a 3-5 year time frame. Can you suggest 5 Canadian stocks with decent dividends, and good upside price potential? Thank you.

Q: Hello, CDN Banks are trading at or near their 52 week lows. BNS and CM have a dividend yield of over 5% now. Do you believe, their valuations have reached close to or near their bottom and it makes sense to add, for income and growth, with a time horizon of 5-10 years. If so, what will be your preferred order for these names ? Thanks

Q: I can get 5% + annual return to maturity on many triple B+ rated corporate bonds in the 6-8 year time frame. Do you see much risk of default or other issues with corporate bonds with companies like Enbridge, TD, Loblaws, and BCE? (I realize their face value will fluctuate as interest rates go up or down)

Q: In my non registered account for financials I own BNS, TD, and GSY. With them all down would you top them up or buy CM instead as an additional holding? The focus of the accounts is high quality dividends as I plan to only use the dividends in retirement. I have growth stocks in my TFSA.
