Q: Why is TD Waterhouse rejecting my trades? I was trying to buy Royal Bank at the open, and now, even a market trade for 100 SHOP got rejected?

Q: First off I just want to say thank you so much for your special report you issued last week. For a young investor like myself who has never been through events like we currently are experiencing your advice has been extremely valuable to help navigate these uncharted waters.
I have been sitting on some cash and would like to increase my technology (both Canada and the US) exposure as it is low right now. I am comfortable with moderate risk. I have a few questions on this subject so feel free to subtract as many credits as you see fit:
1) For Canadian tech companies, after reading your special report and the Q&A's, it seems you like CSU, KXS, DSG, and SHOP. Would you recommend buying these individual companies (or others?) or would XIT be a reasonable alternative with these 4 companies composing ~61%? Or is there another tech etf you would suggest?
2) For US tech companies (or any US company for that matter), with the Canadian dollar being low, would you recommend looking at specific US companies or a Canadian ETF that holds US tech companies? I am worried the exchange would eat into possible returns. Do you have any recommendations (e.g. I have seen you mention XQQ for an etf, SKYY highlighted in etfupdate, and companies like MSFT, GOOG, TEAM, etc)?
Thanks for all that you do.

Q: How low does Shopify have to go before it is an attractive entry point? Small business online may do better in this environment if there are people available/willing to deliver packages?
Thanks,

Q: Hi Peter and Ryan,
I am looking to take advantage from the current market dip and add the the above securities and ETF to my RRSP Portfolio. My time frame is 5 to 10 years. with adding the above I will be having all the 5i balanced portfolio stocks included. In addition I am adding some ETF and other stock that I think it can help my portfolio. Appreciate you advise of which stock look good at this time to buy (please rank). Is there any of the list I should avoid. Do you have other suggestions for good quality stocks and ETF (in the US and Canada) that have a good growth potential.
Thanks,
YR

Q: Hello 5i team,
I've held a good number of stocks you hold in your BE portfolio and I've managed to obtain a 14% compound annual total return in the last 11 years.
100% of my portfolio is in equities; I'll be shortly 77 years old and plan to reduce my equity exposure to 30%, with the above stocks in mind.
Your opinion is most valuable
Antoine

Q: Do these companies do the same thing? They look similar to me and both look crazy expensive. SHOP last 4 Q has made a tiny bit of profit while the other has lost money every Q.There a lot of tech companies selling at crazy multiples to EPS. I am hoping this COVID-19 scare will knock them down a lot; none the less, wondering about your take is on my commentary. Finding it hard to invest in this group.
Q: Hi guys,
I was looking at buying some SHOP if the panic continues. While GDP and retail would be hard hit, SHOP presence is mainly online, yet shipping is likely to be impacted perhaps. Do you see them as more or less impacted by the virus than traditional retailers or would there impact be similar to the impact on Amazon?
Thanks,
Jason

Q: Hi guys, I own the following with the respective total portfolio weightings. My TFSA is all CDN and RRSP is a mix of USD/CDN. When I rebalance, should I try and rebalance with respect to % of TFSA and % of RRSP or rebalance each holding as a percent of overall portfolio? If the latter, I would consolidate some of the holdings in my TFSA to bump up the individual weightings. Are there any obvious adjustments that I should make? I’m heavy on AAPL but have sold so much of it over the years I’m very tempted to let the remaining shares ride.

Q: Can you help me understand why SHOP went vertical (looking at the minute to minute pattern on the RBC website) Wednesday literally in a heart beat? Is the observation correct in terms of the 7-8% pop happened instantly? If correct how does this happen? Is this programmed trading? Would any regular folks have been able to buy it along the way up or did it just pop without any pauses along the way up?
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
Q: Would you expect to see a split anytime in the near future ?

Q: I have some American cash that I would like to put to work but am hesitant to buy American stocks. I know there are Canadian companies that are listed in the United States. My question is, which Canadian companies that are listed in the U.S. would you buy today, based on the belief that they have the most upward potential for 2020. I would appreciate it if you could suggest 5 or 6 companies.
Q: Can we get your views on SHOP financials and what they means going forward. Any concerns?
Q: SHOP has been steadily increasing since November. Their reporting date is Wednesday apparently. Any concerns? Might their bubble burst?
Q: Can you comment on Brian Madden's recent comments about Shopify the last few times he's been on BNN. He likes the company but says their disclosure is a bit manipulative in that it is excluding stock based compensation and that compensation is about 10% of revenue. He feels they are intentionally leaving that out to make their numbers look better while lining their pockets while the company is still not profitable. He's the first i've heard bring this up, thoughts?
Q: SHOP announced a change in management personnel yesterday. They have replaced their marketing chief. CEO stated marketing direction wasn't right. Is there anything to make of this? Reason for concern?
