Trump is expected to issue an executive order as soon as Monday that would allow for reclassification of marijuana. If this happens what are your favorite CAD ways to play it. Looking for a way to par-take ;).

Q: Hi there, now that Trump and the Republicans are in full control for the next 4 years, where does that leave the cannabis industry going forward in the US?

Were the Republicans ever in favour of legalizing the industry in the US on a federal level?

What is your opinion on the industry going forward in the US now, as far as legalization is concerned, federally?

Any thoughts on what happens to all our Canadian companies wanting the market to open up in the US, WEED, TLRY, etc etc

Q: Hi, I have noticed that OGI is hitting new highs and has doubled in the last 2 to 3 months. TRUL, CL and GTII are also doing well. Meanwhile, TLRY and WEED are going sideways or down. Why the large difference between these two groups? Thanks

Q: Structured notes are a stock/bond hybrid with a limited life span or maturity. When an advisor touts them, they may sound appealing because they often combine high coupon rates with some level of principal protection that would enable their buyer to get their original investment back. Legally, they are unsecured debt obligations of the issuing bank. Unlike most bonds, their coupon payments are often contingent on the performance of an underlying asset such as a stock or index, which means coupons may not always be paid. Structured notes often have no potential to appreciate in price or have an explicit cap on maximum gains.

According to Amy Arnott, a Senior Portfolio Strategist at Morningstar,

“Structured notes may offer big payouts, but those advertised yields aren't always worth the risks. In fact, when we recently dug into some of the academic research on how structured notes have performed, we found that two of the three studies we reviewed found that on average, structured notes have failed to perform better than a balanced portfolio of stocks and bonds, and at times have failed to keep up with risk-free Treasury bills.

Structured notes still account for a tiny fraction of investable assets in the U.S., but they've been gaining in popularity amid recent market volatility and record-low interest rates. They're often described as a way for risk-averse investors to capture additional income while limiting downside volatility. But their embedded costs, complexity, lack of liquidity and transparency, and often unfavorable payoff profiles make them difficult to use in a portfolio. Investors tempted by double-digit yields should therefore tread carefully--or take a pass.”

Can I please get your thoughts and views on structured notes and whether you are in agreement with Amy Arnott’s opinion on structured notes as an investment vehicle? Is this another losing investment opportunity like buying shares in WEED.TO back in the Spring of 2019?

Q: Thanks for your useful answer. My info is that while legalization of pot in the US is not on the cards for the moment, a bill called the Safe Banking Act (in the US) is expected to pass in 2023 whose passage will allow institutional participation in the sector, which is something they cannot presently do, and a surge in purchases with significant associated price rises is anticipated as a result. This is some way out in front but the markets anticipate and I wondered how much of a hill Canopy for example had to climb, here or in the US.

Q: Hello Peter,
When Brookfield first indicated that they were going to spin off the asset management unit, the stock popped alot, but then subsided. Now, the spinoff is more certain as opposed to just mentioning it, why is the stock not behaving as it did when the first announcement was made? Please provide your view. Given USA is still delaying its legalization of marijuana, I was deciding on Weed or Hut mining given both are volatile. What would make sense ? Thanks very much

Can you please rank these “fallen angels” in terms of the best risk-return profile over a five-to-ten-year hold? Everyone likes a bargain! Sometimes it is possible to survive a falling knife particularly if you use tungsten as a shield!
