Q: Can you transfer shares in kind to a TFSA, and if so does that action trigger a capital gain at the time of transfer?

Q: Hello. Looking for a recommendation in the telecomm, materials, and energy sectors. Can you also let me know if you see them as more stable companies IE better fit for my RRSP, or have the potential for higher growth so maybe a better fit for a TFSA? Im 40 so long runway ahead and ok with some volatility for the sake of growth over time.

Q: Hi 5i,
Hold the above companies in my TFSA ($30,000). % holdings around 10% for each, except CAE, OSS TRI, AD which are 3% - 5%.

Looking to deploy $5,000. Looking at d-un, dir-un, Telus & Fortis.

Safety and Income preferred, as in mid 60's. I would certainly welcome any other suggestions.

Thank You.

Q: This is regarding Douglas' question today about selling US listed stocks held in an TFSA. It is my understanding that any buy and sell in an TFSA account, Canadian or US listed, are not subject to tax, and has no bearing on next years's contribution room as long as there is no withdrawal. Please clarify. Thanks

Q: Regarding TFSAs and the withdrawal rule. (I have asked my broker and researched the CRA site, unsuccessfully).
If I transfer an inter-listed Canadian stock to the US registry, and then sell it, what is the contribution room in the following year? Is it the C$ equivalent of the sale, at the time of sale, or the C$ amount at the time of transfer, or the C$ equivalent of he sale proceeds at the time of re-investing? And what exchange rate would be used...…..bid, ask, or middle?

Q: My wife sold three longtime holdings in her RSP to free up some cash for future promising purchases. The next day she purchased the same stocks from her cash balance in her TFSA. Are there any particular implications to doing this that she should be aware of, other than usual portfolio diversity and weightings.

Q: What portion of the dividend is withheld from US stocks in your TFSA and is there any tax consequences with that

Q: I hold the above in my TFSA. I treat my TFSA as part of a total portfolio so although each is about 20% of my TFSA, my overall weight for each is 3% in my total portfolio. Needless to say my TFSA has not performed well this year. Each of these companies (Except for ZQQ) seems to have lost significant value this past year. 5i seems to still like these names but I am starting to think that they are going the same path as some previous darlings of 5i. So my question is: with a 5 year outlook, should I continue to be patient or sell any of these and move on.
By the way, I did ask a question last week and voiced my opinion on some comments....never got a reply??

Q: Hi 5i,
I am looking for your advice on what to buy for a new TFSA (full $63,500 deposit) at this time. The funds in this account will be required in the next 3 to 5 years. Income and growth are the objectives, within the requirement to preserve capital. Would you allocate your recommendations equally or ? Thanks!

Q: Have a RESP with a 15 year time horizon. Looking for your recommendation on a mix of (growth) Canadian and US stocks and allocation; already have amazon.
Thanks as always for your great service!

Q: Regarding earlier question on seeming overcontribution to TFSA, the discrepancy most likely involves dividend reinvestments which are added to book value.

Q: Hi Peter, Ryan and Team,

In my TFSA, I have FTS, KXS, PBH, PHO, SIS and WPK. Currently I am down on PHO (30 %) and SIS (20%) and the others are doing ok. Do you think the mix is right for a long term outlook? If not, could you recommend what to swap out and replace?

Thanks again for all your great work.

Q: A friend and I were comparing our TFSA results. He is a passive index type and I am a stock picker. His balance is 107K and mine is 101K. At the moment it looks like he is winning. We have both contributed the max 63,500. But our book cost or cost basis raised a question. His cost shows as 77,500 and mine at 66,092. It looks like we have both over contributed but I know I haven't and he says he hasn't ...there must be something about cost basis that I don't understand. Can you explain?
