Q: ITP being taken over at $40.50.Proxy deposit date was May 9 with voting on May 11.Today it closed at $39.13-0.52,with the news today it was going to open an office in the UK, maybe with the blessings of the acquirer. Are there any reasons for the drop? Surprised to find such an event before meeting & voting tomorrow. Do u think that the deal will complete? Is it time to sell now instead of waiting for completion? Txs for u usual great services & views

Q: According to KPMG, the Finance Minister has telegraphed that she will not be increasing the capital gains inclusion rate in the April 7 budget. That being said, never say never. I currently hold ITP with some accrued gains. Does it make sense to sell my holdings and crystalize my gains and then buyback my shares to take advantage of the still existing arbitrage opportunity? Is this what you would do if you were in this situation? For tax purposes, if they change the inclusion rate, would it be based on the trade date or the settlement date? I understand there is no 30 day waiting period to buy the shares back, but can I buy them back the same day that I sell them, or do I need to wait until the next trading day?

Thank you.

Q: HI Peter and Staff

I own ITP in my basket of materials stocks. Trading at $1 below proposed sales price.

Assume the $9.99 * 2 is not an issue would you pull the trigger now and increase a modest position in TECK.B or wait for the sale to close?

Also assuming position in TECK.B is not overweight regardless of answer to first question would you continue to hold WFG in the basket or dump it in favour of increasing position in TECK.B?

Thanks for you you do

Dennis

Q: I currently hole MMM in a dividend portfolio on the US industrial side and thinking of ITP on the Canadian materials side. Are these to companies too similar in nature to include in a diversified portfolio? Would you have another dividend grower materials related stock to consider?

Q: If you had a well balanced portfolio and were looking to add some medium to small sized companies that were involved in industrial activity of various types, how would you feel about each of these companies on a scale of 1 to 10, with a 10 being a stock you definitely want to add right now, a 1 being a stock you have absolutely no interest in, and a 5 being a stock you thought was not bad, but not good enough to want to buy it. Say you have a risk tolerance of about a 7, with 10 being high and 1 being low. Looking for long term total return. ANRG, DIR.UN, FTT, GDI, HDI, ITP, NOA, XTC.
