Q: For at least10 years I had been invested in a diversified portfolio that included the eleven sectors, bond ETF's gold, preferred shares and cash only to see the bond ETF's and preferred shares continually tumbling down year after year. Gold went nowhere with no dividend, nada.Tiring of this I got rid of the bond ETF's, the preferred shares, and gold having lost thousands but I didn't care! At least I no longer had to look at this disaster taking place as they melted down to almost nothing. What was left I invested in the good companies and never looked back. As my five year GIC ladder came due, each year I gained a paltry $1,500 or so on $10,000. So no more ladder. All through the pandemic the dividends now kept on coming, stocks are increasing and I was up a minimum of $140,000. So now I have cash, all eleven sectors with fixed income from ETF's like UMAX and others plus my pension. So cash 13%, Equity 50% and fixed 35% no bonds, no gold, no preferred shares and 2 years left on my GIC ladder and Europe ETF. I know 5i loves to include bonds etc as a "balancing diversifier" to a portfolio but for me this did not work out. Maybe in the next ten years or more they may break even but I do no want to wait that long. So far this works for me. I invite any comments that you may have.

Q: Good Morning,

I hold KXS in my TFSA. My goal is to maximize growth in the account. Would you endorse a switch to one of the above names. Which would be your current two favourites in the group?

Thanks,
Janet

Q: According to your weekly review received Saturday the Canadian dollar was 73.96 and the TSX ended the week up 1.6%
However according to Saturday’s Globe and Mail the Canadian dollar was 73.57 and the TSX closed at 21,984 or up .3% for the week.
In the future it may be better to postpone your weekly market view until the next market day as obviously there must have been a drop in markets during the closing hours.

Q: 1) If you could only hold 10 names from 5i’s Balanced portfolio with the aim of maximizing total returns over 10 years, what would you choose?

2) Same as previous question, but the 10 names can be any security, Canadian or U.S.

Thank you!

Looking for growth with moderate risk. Thank you.

Q: Hi 5i:
These 2 are in my TFSA, AQN is down 15% and ATZ 27%, each are 1.5% of TFSA.
I am thinking it is time to move on. My reason is that I think it will take too long for these to "come back"
I know that this will be a loss I cannot claim.

What do you think? Any suggested replacements?
Thanks for all your work and analysis.

Q: BNS - Stock Charts on 05/28/24 as the next earnings, Yahoo Fin. has 03/01/24 as ex div. payment. The question is, if I sell on 03/02/24 will I receive the div.

LMN - I'm thinking of buying more of this stock. It appears to me that this is a good time, for it has traded sideways for the last week.
Question what is the outlook for this stock in 24/25 yrs.

PRL - Bruce Murray was on BNN Mar 19/24 and commented about Propel Holdings Inc. PRL-TSX. I checked on Yahoo Fin. and they indicated full year earnings 7 days ago beat expectations, but it doesn't appear the market was not impressed. What can you tell me about this company. Yahoo indicated some red flags.
So I would greatly appreciate your input.
Thank You very much Appreciate your service

Q: Very disappointed by your reply yesterday to my question which looks like a plain dismissal, as you didn't utter a word on the second part of the question on industrials, while making it private as to avoid embarrassment.

This is a public question.

Q: I'm thinking of journaling the above inter-listed securities over to my US RSP account as a currency play (I'm expecting CAD weakness vs USD over next 1-2 years). Other than CAD dividend exchange rate fees, are there other caveats to be aware of with any of these securities specific to their US listings? I.e. liquidity on NYSE? Thank you.
