Q: Good morning team, just for clarity ZDI is not subject to withholding taxes in a tfsa correct? Also is there much overlap between vxc and zdi?

I have owned perpetual preferred shares in Brookfield Corp. for many years. They formerly traded under the symbol BAM.PR.M, but after the corporate reorganization/spinoff of Brookfield Asset Management, they now trade under the symbol BN.PR.M, which is the parent company.
1. Has the risk profile of this share issue changed post reorganization/spinoff?
2. Is the issue still considered "investment grade" (Pf1 or Pf2?)
3. What is a good source of information on Canadian preferred shares and their risk
ratings?

Q: These past years, watching energy / utilities has been strategically interesting these, noting that it was a short time ago that renewable utility stocks were shooting for the moon, and energy was so low that oil was selling at a negative to fulfill pipeline contracted deliveries. At its low I recall a reader asking “should I back up the truck” on Suncor. In short your response was no. Nobody likes oil, just look at the price.
Then it all switched. A number of unforeseeable crises such as Ukraine shifted everything.
What is the long term forecast for each? I note that the world is finally ramping scale for electric vehicles, and batteries, a lot faster than building power plants. My hypothesis is thus related. A demand surge for e-cars in years ahead will gradually spike power demand with no concurrent supply leading to average power rates jumping and done winners in utilities. If anything, natural disaster supply shortages in California, Texas and others have highlighted grid vulnerabilities reducing supply and creating spikes for winners.
On the fossil fuel side, I would therefore guess that demand will persist as North America does not support infrastructure to reduce or even maintain electricity costs at present levels.
Any thoughts welcome- this is no longer a new subject but should be among our most important as investors…I’m also looking out at the smoke everywhere and thinking this discussion isn’t going away.

Q: TC Energy. There is a lot of talk about when the new pipeline in Canada will come online. When it does come online and provided there aren't any more delays, how much can we equate this to cash flow of the short - medium term? is it material?

Q: So far it has been an eventual year to date for Quarterhill -- gone are the CEO , the dividend , the CFO and the WiLan Division . The sale of WiLan seemed like an overly complicated transaction -- what is your opinion of the price of $71m they received ?
Quarterhill was a top pick yesterday on BNN , and at close of business today the stock was up 20% in two days . What is your current opinion of QTRH -- are they perhaps a candidate for going private , or maybe a takeover target ?

Q: Hi Peter, thanks to you and your team for your great service. For a young person (or anyone for that matter), what are your thoughts on regular contributions to the S&P vs picking individual stocks ? It seems a simple but winning approach as it buys more of the good compalnies each 1/4 and kicks out the poor performers. It lacks energy etc but is this an issue ? Is there any data on how many mgrs or individuals actually beat the S&P. Are there equivilant and/or complimentary indexes you would pair with the S&P ? Looking to spend less time fussing over individual names. Thank you.

Q: My daughter just turned 18 and we opened her TFSA account this week. Trying to spark her interest in investing I was screening for some young hip stocks I could put her onto ( gaming, social media, clothing brands, etc) ....saddly in Canada I didn't find anything. So went to my second option which is " work related stocks" which in my case is engineering and my daughter going off to school in the fall in engineering as well. I have owned WSP since before the merger ( Genivar) so done very well. Stantech is your holding in the growth portfolio although I am concerned with the strong run over the past year and a looming ( hopefully shallow) recession that it might not be a great time to get into the name over WSP which has done well but lagged a bit more this year. So WSP or STN for a 30+ yr hold, or look elsewhere short term due to sector risk with the looming slowdown.

Q: Hi 5i Team - What is your latest opinion on Delta Airlines. Is there still a substantial amount of debt and is it a concern. Do they have strong management. Is there still decent growth ahead. I think earnings are coming up soon - any thoughts on expectations. Delta's stock price has increased by a large margin year-to-date and I'm just wondering if it is still within a good price range for buying. Thanks.
