Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: This stock was owned long ago under 70$ haha.
It's clearly one the best performing out of the TSX on a very long run.

I am looking to average into a position in my non registered Canadian side of my portfolio.

Would you please provide a "fair value" range that you'd be comfortable starting in.

This will be a longterm core holding.

Thank you.

Q: It’s RRSP season. I am very overweight the US market (and tech) and with the declining dollar, I am considering buying a Canadian security.

Can you list your 5 favourite Canadian Picks for a Canadian RRSP. I already own GSY, Propel, TVK. Considering CNQ as I have no energy exposure.

You can be aggressive or conservative in your recommendations. I have no preference as to market cap or sector.

Please rank your favourites.

Thank you.

Q: Hi there, I’m curious to know what you look for in a true compounder. What are the key metrics that catch your eye when analyzing a company and how they make use of their cash.

Q: What’s your view on the transportation sector right now and companies such as TFII and CP? Will they be significantly impacted by US tariffs? Would these be a hold or more to another sector such as financials?

Q: Hi 5i Team.

I have some names in my TFSA account such as ATD, ATX and ENGH (and maybe some others) that are laggers and would like to move out of them and into something with potentially higher returns.
I also own the other names mentioned above.
What are your thoughts and could you recommend 3 to 5 Canadian and/or US names with the reasons and entry points.
also own NVDA that has grown to a huge percentage of the account.
I know that I should sell some but it has been such a great performer.

Thank you
Joe

Q: I am planning to sell my shares in CNR. I have done well holding it for several years but there just appears to be opportunities for better price appreciating than CNR has over the past couple of years. I would prefer to replace it with a Canadian company. It does not need to be an Industrial. I am currently over weight financials. I am ok with some risk. What companies would you consider as a replacement?

Thanks for all your help,

Mike

Q: I'm looking to close a gap in my non-registered portfolio in the Industrial Sector. I'm not too concerned about industry. I'm looking for some reasonably priced options that you guys like that have good growth potential, but also pay a (growing) dividend. My intention is a long-term buy and hold. Would you please recommend your top 3 Cdn and top 3 US "likes" and rank order purchase preference from 1 to 6 (with 1 being your top pick) and any rationale for your choices that you think might be helpful to my decision making process. Thank you and thanks (yet) again for your excellent service.

Q: Hi Team,
If YOU had TFII and ATD at a loss in an unregistered account, would YOU sell to claim the tax loss now? Would you rebuy after 30 days? Can you also please explain the rationale behind the answer. Thanks

Q: If somebody mentioned already on this forum I missed it. Congratulations to 5i for having a handfull of stocks that they have endorsed to us members on making the TSX Top 30 list, https://www.tsx.com/en/news?id=1053 , the 30 best performers over the last 3 years. I, along with lots of your members I'd guess am very happy to own a few of the stocks on the list, tx to the team at 5i. What are a few names you'd guess at making the next list next?

Q: Can you please give me your current opinion on Goodfellow potential. Will they be in a position to pay dividend ms in coming year? What is their growth potential in current macro environment of reducing interest rates? How would they compare to your favorite small cap industrial companies? Is it worth investing in at the moment or best left alone for greener pastures?
