Q: Hi 5i,
Current shareholder of BMY for last 4 years and it simply has not done very much however pays small dividend of 3.2 %
I'm looking to sell and replace with something in same sector/space with better share price growth potential. Medium risk with 2- 3 year horizon. Dividend would be nice but not absolutely necessary.
Thx
Jim

Q: In Peter's editorial in the February Moneysaver, he re-iterated the importance of diversification across the 11 main sectors. I found I am short in 3: tech, healthcare and communications. I am on the verge of retirement and have an income slant but realize some growth is also needed throughout my investing lifetime. Could you give me one growth and one income recommendation for each of those 3 sectors? (A company which pays a small dividend but has a history of raising it consistently would be ideal in the growth recommendation.)

Thanks,
SCOTT

Q: In the healthcare sector I hold ABBV, BMY, MDT, AZN and CVS. Am looking to swap one out for a growth/value holding, perhaps in Industrials (maybe LMT?). Was thinking AZN would be my odd one out. Would appreciate your thoughts on best approach for long term buy and hold portfolio given the 5 holdings noted here. Thanks.

Q: I have a target allocation of 40-45% for total portfolio US exposure. Which ETFs would you suggest (either currency) to form the core of this allocation? Could you also please provide a handful of individual US picks to supplement. Aiming for long term growth with 20+ yr time horizon. Thanks!

Q: I have MDT whose shares have been in a muted trading range for more than a year. Understandable reasons— e.g. postponement of elective surgeries &c.). However I then checked the 10-year performance of the medical equipment ETF , IHI.us, with that of MDT. To my surprise, MDT has not outperformed IHI in ANY part of an entire decade (I used charts at Scotia’s FlightDesk for this).

Several analyst shops seems to favor MDT, as do you. Has something changed in recent months to boost the prospects of MDT?

If this is a good time to add to one’s holding in MDT, please comment on whether the following metrics from GuruFocus are correct:
TTM P/E : 42.98 and ROE less than 7%. Further, I see y-y EBITDA Growth Rate % of [gasp] minus -30.10 and PEG of 11.45.
Can this be correct for a well-regarded company ? Kindly give your data for forward P/E , PEG , and please confirm whether cash flow from operations is adequate for operations and to meet debt obligations.

Q: Great and timely article yesterday on this "Phoenix market". With that in mind, which companies in the US manufacturing, health care, energy and technology industries would you be comfortable putting money into today with a 10 plus year hold with a medium/high risk tolerance? Are there any US names that you think should be full positions in the majority of such portfolios? Please feel free to deduct as many question credits as you deem appropriate.

Q: Great article today re the "Phoenix Market". With that in mind, could you please suggest a US stock or two in each major industry sector that you feel is well positioned for growth in the next 5-10 years that you would nevertheless be comfortable stepping into today? (Even if just half a position) Please feel free to deduct the number of credits you deem appropriate.

Q: I just moved my RRSP over to Questrade from PH&N and have lots of cash to deploy (5+ year time line). For tax efficiency, I want to hold REITs, bonds, interest investments, US div stocks/ETFs, royalty income funds or any other investments that are not tax efficient in my MARGIN, TFSA and CORP accounts.
(1) Industrial REITs: I have half positions in DIR, GRT - should I diversify and also take positions in WIR and SMU or focus on DIR and GRT?
(2) Other REITs: Can you recommend any other quality value REITs? Is it a good time to invest in residential REITs?
(3) Can you recommend a good high yield bond ETF that has performed as well as PH&N High Yield Bond?
(4) Can you recommend some good value US div stocks (preferred) or ETFs? I am considering ABBV, PG, VZ.
Many thanks for any/all suggestions/comments!!!
