Q: What are your thoughts on the current earnings report and how do they fare relative to expectations ? Seemingly, the market doesn't want them to buy 7i, based on the price action since bid announce and subsequent events of other bidders. Why do you think?

Q: Hello team,
I'm considering selling Apple at a large profit and deploying elsewhere.
I want to offset some gains with some losses.
Losers in order are:
DRX
SGY
BCE (small amount held in my non-reg)
Selling all is fine with me so I can balance out my Apple gains. What do you think about selling these names and what are a couple of your favourite US and CAD stock for new money?

Q: Hi. My wife and I are in the process of rebalancing our portfolio. We're in our 70s and our portfolio has treated us well. Unfortunately our winners have grown to create a portfolio that is now 70% tech and 30% cash.
We'd like to bring our Nvidia and Apple holdings from just over 20% for each to around 10 or 12%.
Where would you reinvest the proceeds of the sale outside of the tech sector?
What 5 top US companies and 5 Canadian companies would be your favourites and why?
Thanks
Frank

Q: Hello 5i
I just noticed that in answer to a question you have put adt.ca ahead of premium brands in its category as a favourite pick. I have been worried that adt direction may be looking for a big way to make their mark in their acquisition. I have wondered whether that would bring them to abandon their usual caution. I hold pbh at now, a quite small capital gain and have been thinking about selling it. Just wondering what makes you so confident about this deal. And also, whether it is good enough to make the switch?
Thanks for this great service

Q: There was a question asked this summer about your favorite stocks in both Canada and the US in each of the 11 sectors. I cannot seem to find it. Could you please answer that question again ? If your answer has not changed, could you please provide a link to that past answer ?
Q: In December I moved ATD from my TFSA to my non registered account where it promptly tanked and continues to be very volatile. I'm down over 5%. Is there a rule of thumb about how long one lets a once winning stock ride before throwing in the towel? As an older senior, I don't have a lot of years to ride out the loss, but am willing to for a while if it seems reasonable.
Q: Hi Team,
If YOU had TFII and ATD at a loss in an unregistered account, would YOU sell to claim the tax loss now? Would you rebuy after 30 days? Can you also please explain the rationale behind the answer. Thanks

Q: 1) Which has the highest & lowest 10-yr total return potential according to 5i’s research & data?
2) What other defensive names in the US & Canada might provide similar (or better) risk-adjusted returns over 10 years, given current valuations?
Thank you.

Q: I am thinking of starting a position in ATD, given its current weakness, as I am underweight consumer discretionary. As usual it is also difficult to know what to sell, but I am thinking of selling one or two of my small cap technology stocks, namely AIF and SYZ. Selling one would give me a half position in ATD and selling both would give me a full position. There are no capital gains implications as the stocks are in my TFSA. With regard to quality of the companies and their growth prospects, would you advise me to make this trade? If so, which of AIF and SYZ would you sell or would you sell both?
Q: For some time I have been considering increasing my position in ATD but the company’s continued push to acquire Japanese 7-Eleven parent Seven & i Holdings Co gives me pause. Sounds like a whole lotta debt and considerable risk. Is the management team carefully assessing this or could this mainly be driven by Alain Bouchard‘s ego?

Q: A few days ago Caisse stated it will support Atd in acquisition of 7&I. Aritsan,a major shareholder of 7&I encouraged negotiations with Atd instead of reorganization. This resulted in Atd's rise of $1.20. It appears that the Japanese Gov't will block a take over, however it may allow sale of the N.American stores. Atd has dropped quite sharply since initial offer. In view of foregoing,is it timely to buy/add Atd.What is a good entry price? Txs for u usual great services & views
