Q: This question concerns the technology sector in a well-diversified Canadian portfolio (~30 holdings), focused slightly toward growth.

The current technology holdings are CSU, SHOP, DSG and KXS. With the exception of KXS, the holdings are all positive. We are considering replacing KXS with LMN.

For a long term hold, which of KXS and LMN would you prefer and why?

Q: I have owned KXS for several years and although I am not unhappy with its performance it is rather volatile. DSG which is in a similar business seems to experience more price stability. I am ok with volatility and tend to hold equities for the long term. Using long-term growth prospects and current valuations as a guideline would you favor one over the other to any great extent? Taxes are not an issue so I could easily switch to DSG if the metrics suggest this is the better stock.

Q: Dear 5i,
I own CSU (10%), LMN (2.5%) and SHOP (4%) in my TFSA.Is it a good idea for me to increase LMN to 5% and SHOP to 6% to increase weight in the technical sector? Is it better to start a new position(s) such as KXS, DSG, or TOI? This is a small diversified TFSA, and protecting the portfolio with some growth is the main goal.

Q: Hello, I have the following in my TFSA: GIB.A, OTEX, NVEI, KXS, DSG, DOL, NXR.UN, with more or less the same weight. I am under water with NVEI, KXS, NXR.UN. Should I just sell OTEX, DSG and GIB.A and buy XIT instead and wait for NVEI and KXS to break even before selling them and buy XIT? I know XIT has 50% in SHOP and CSU and 5i likes CSU very much. I am less sure about SHOP. What is your opinion of SHOP for a long term hold? I did not fully understand their recent change of strategy. FYI, I have US tech names in a cash account, that’s why I am looking at CDN names in my TFSA. Thanks.

Q: I need to gradually raise cash over the next 6 months and am operating on the assumption that interest rates will begin a to decline in late Q1, I would only like to sell those holdings that are less likely to do well in a declining interest rate environment. Please rank each of these holdings from "Sell Now - least likely to benefit from a declining rate environment" to "Avoid Selling - should do very well in a declining rate environment". Q: Could I get your take on Q3 earnings. Revenues are up but earnings are flat, is this only the "other charges"? Could you explain why they are reporting Q3 2024 earnings, in Dec 2023, pretty much a full year ahead... I haven't seen a company Q report that far from actual calendar Q. How does this work?
