Q: If I were to sell one of these stocks to purchase something growthier, in what order might you suggest? Are any of these potential recovery plays?

Q: Hello I have accumulated about 27% of my cash portfolio in ENB and TRP combined due to DRIP and the fact that I have held the shares for about 20 years. The also make up about 10% of my total investments. If I sell, the tax will be like a kick in the pants and so I have never sold. The dividends have always been good too. But with Trudeau looking for areas to raise some cash, I feel capital gains might get worse. If I were to sell some of this, would you suggest some renewable energy issues such as AGN or BEPC to replace?

Q: If you had to choose between Enbridge and TC Energy - to hold for the next 10 plus years, with the goals of preservation of capital (acknowledging market risk) and overall dividend return during that time period, which one would you choose?

Q: My wife has the above shares in a RRIF and we have to sell a few shares of one of them to provide enough cash for the monthly payout.
They each have, or have had their benefits but I'd be interested to know which ones I should start with at the present.
I've been inclined to sell losers as opposed to winners in the past and I am wondering whether to ditch ENB which is in the red, but if there were to be turnaround with ENB, the bounce might mean that BCE, which is a slow lumbering beast might be a better choice. Your thoughts?

Q: Hi!
Stocks have increased a lot recently and most of the above are well off their lows with stocks like BEP and BIP almost reaching their high of the year. Would you feel comfortable entering new money into the above names for income/growth or wait for a pullback? I know timing the market is next to impossible but do you see this rising market as sustainable and if one waits will the opportunity to enter still at reasonable prices be missed? Also, what are your thoughts on RDVY. It was not listed as a choice on the drop down list.

Your advice on options, specifically covered calls is very much appreciated. Some time ago you had advised on opportunities in the US market for selling covered calls. As I believe that with the US election done that there may be some return to normal, is this a good time to again consider selling calls and could you advise 3 Canadian and 3 US shares that might offer good premiums ?

They are financially stable with a long term balanced portfolio and are interested in allocating the new cash into quality, long term positions with growth potential. Q: My 40-year-old daughter has $42K in her RRSPs with Scotia Bank. Her advisor put her in two funds. BSN378 and BSN385. One is 45% invested in basically bonds and 40 Canadian stocks. The other is 12.3 % cash and 47 Canadian stocks. The exception is 2% invested in Microsoft. I assume there is a lot of duplication between the two funds investing in the same Canadian Companies. The MER is close to 2%. Apart from this being a travesty - I would like to move her into a self administered RRSP with a mix of a balanced ETF and three other stocks. She is regularly adding more money. She won't be withdrawing money from this account for at least 25 years.

Would you kindly suggest a suitable balanced ETF.

The three stocks I would suggest for a long term hold would be BAM, SHOP and ENB. Could I have your opinion or options please. Deduct as many questions as you see fit.

I have built my daughter's RRSP with your wise direction. She is up 15 to 25% on BAM;EMA;FTS;L;OTEX;RY; BEP and RBF 1030.(My choice) Wonderful. Thank you. We are down in descending order on ENB;CSH;BCE and MFC.

Overweight in Utilities and Financials but okay with that.

Would you add to the latter group? Add any new ones.

I hold BEP.UN;BEPC;BBU;CCL.B;ENB;EMA;H;FTS;CTC; and BAM in a non registered account and thanks to you I have done very well following your Q & A and portfolios. I am down 43% in SU; down 23% in CPD; down 16% in IPL and 6% in POW. Would you add to the winners? Add to the temporary losers or ADD new ones. After today, am tempted to add to SU for sure. Have RRIF and TFSA with pretty balanced sectors. Overall, Overweight in Utilities, Financials and okay with that. Many thanks, Paul

Q: Good morning,
I just completed my annual portfolio review to identify potential tax loss harvesting candidates for the 2020 tax year and given that both KEY and ENB are both underwater, I am considering the option of selling both stocks and repurchasing them in 30 days.
My first question is which stock, stocks or ETF would you recommend I purchase to replace KEY and ENB for the next 30 days before repurchasing both KEY and ENB if that is indeed my best course of action.
My second question is whether or not these two pipeline stocks continue to have a place in an income generating non registered account portfolio or should I simply replace them now with some other income generating stock and if so which one or two stocks would you recommend.
