Q: What are your thoughts about this as a US/CDN high yield income portfolio? Any ideas would be appreciated. Please take as many credits as needed.

Q: Tax Loss selling time is just around the corner and I would like to take advantage of losses I have in above companies. I have some gains this year and I paid taxes on gains for the last 3 years as well.
Would you sell one position only and which one would you suggest. I would like to buy back at the appropriate time as well.
I would appreciate if you could prepare us for this event of tax loss selling and refresh our memories.

Q: Apparently BMO, CIBC and TD currently have negative amortization mortgages approaching 20%. Do you have comparatives for BNS and RY ? Apparently there is one Canadian bank that is very conservative at less than 6%.

Q: As a Canadian, if I purchase RY:US on a US Exchange, will the withholding tax rules apply in this case ?

Q: I have a loss in CM which is matched by an equal gain in TD.
Was thinking to sell both and buying equal amounts of BNS and RY.
All are in a non registered account. Is the tax loss accepted?
Would you recommend any changes back after 30 days?

Q: We are dividend investors in our late 70’s. We derive most of our income from dividends. Recently we sold about 200,000. Worth of Enbridge and are looking to reinvest. We have short listed some companies above and would like your opinion on them. Also if you have any other suggestions we would welcome your ideas. We are looking for solid companies with a good dividend that also increase their dividends.

Q: Hi 5i,
I've just started following EQB with an eye to getting in.
In the past week all 5 major banks are nicely up (even CM!) as is NA.
Conversely, EQB has had a sharp drop followed by a bit of a bounce, but is down overall.
I realize a week is not long and typically not a period of time from which to draw conclusions. However, the opposite direction of WQB's trajectory to other banks has me confused.
Can you explain why its trajectory over the past week would be so markedly different from other, bigger, names in the sector. Is it a sign of some fundamental weakness that isn't well publicized, is it just one of those short term things that defy explanation, is it due to a difference in its business model that is seen as a weakness, is it size related and is it typical for it to go in the opposite direction than most other names in the sector?
I'd sure like to have better insight into EQB, given its behaviour over the past brief while.

Q: I am thinking of switching from TD to Royal Bank. Last quarter results were better. As well, I just read that Royal Banks has made a large acquisition that has been approved. Your thoughts. Thanks Steve

Q: hypothetical question on loss provisions: should these provisions that are set aside (or at least a portion of them) ultimately not be necessary in the future, does that mean there is a potential for them to be reflected as revenue on future earnings and thus, result in a seemingly excellent quarter, year, or whenever this situation could happen? How is viewed from an accounting perspective?

Q: 5i team: a 10 years comparative chart of these 4 banks reveal a strong tendency of BNS to lag the rest and NA to grow faster. Is BNS having challenges in its management , or is Latin America investments pulling them down ? , Will they ever recover ? , would you recommend instead NA for a better growth ?, what is the downside of owning NA ?, thanks !!

Q: Retired investor looking to reduce bank holdings. Currently have ~1/2 positions in TD and BAC and full positions in NA and RY. I would appreciate your input. Could you rank, giving rationale, ATS, CLS, ABT, HST, LEN, for upside potential? Would you recommend starting 1/2 positions (or easing into) any of them at this time? Q: Earnings not good for TD but fine for RY. Can you explain issues with TD and what you see going forward. It seems RY is cutting costs and this seems to be reflected in results. Is this something TD should be doing also. Would you add to TD at this point?

Q: I am considering increasing my Canadian Bank exposure. I know timing is never perfect, but given the recent pullback in Cdn Banks, and the headwinds going into a potential recession, is this a good time to buy RY, TD and BNS, or would you wait and see what plays out in next 3 to 6 months?

I'm a retiree and looking for a balance of income and growth, and currently holding the above in the financial sector and need to trim down as per the Portfolio tracking service suggest. Could u rank your preference from the Income and growth , from Most Prefer (5) to the least (1). Feel free to add names not in the list above.

Q: I sold TRP today at basically a break even price because I do not want to wait out the final outcome of their recent split up plan and to see how their debt is allocated etc. I was in the stock for long term income given I am recently retired. It will be hard to find an equivalent yield, given capital preservation is a prime objective along with the income. TRP was held in a non registered account for tax advantaged dividend income.

With long term capital preservation a goal along with income generation, and that I hold all of the above listed companies already in appropriate proportions and don't wish to add to them or their sectors (no more utilities, financials or telecoms) what other Canadian blue chip dividend companies would you consider for long term hold with decent dividends for income? I also already have enough allocated to bonds, GIC's and cash accounts so I'm not considering these assets either.

Manageable debt levels and ability to maintain dividend growth, hopefully at the rate of inflation or higher is the main criteria I would hope to have in replacing TRP for the long haul. Thank you for your valued insight in giving me suggestions to look at.

Q: With a potential recession and also interest rate uncertainty, is RY still a good bank to hold if I'm buying for the longer term? Also it's already such a big company, how will the returns be and where would growth actually come from?

Q: Looking for income from bond etfs and dividend paying stocks that will appreciate in value if interest rates have peaked and gradually fall towards 3% (i.e. those that have been hit unduly hard due to inflationary fears). Suggestions?

Q: I would like to take some profits from WSP and add to my existing dividend positions such as ENB, RY, SLF, Telus or TRP.
Please let me know your preferred Div Stock out of above list.
