Q: I just sold the above stocks to harvest tax losses. I intend to repurchase them in 30 days. How important (or prudent) is it, in your opinion, to purchase proxies for them? What could you recommend if your feel it is useful to do so?
I hold VIG and have decided I'd like to instead concentrate my holdings on two stocks: UNH and V. Are there any obvious red flags with these two companies. I know there is no comparison between and ETF and individual stocks. Sector is not a concern.
Q: In January, you answered a question about Sienna with a note that the payout ratio was 99.6%. In another answer in March, you indicated it was 61%.
Could you take a look at it again and comment on the difference? Is one of these an anomaly?I am interested in knowing if their situation is improving regarding dividend safety. Should I be concerned? Is the risk level increasing or decreasing? ... Thanks! PK
Q: Hello. I am looking at getting exposure in utilities. Could you please provide me with some ETF's - U.S. or Cdn? or stocks? Please rank them as well.
What is considered a reasonable management fee for ETF's?
Q: Can you please provide a brief analysis of risk for this one, maybe especially with respect to their balance sheet and whether you know anything about any debt obligations that may incur higher rates at refinancing, valuation now vs historical P/E, potential headwinds etc.? I rode it up and right back down, just a little concerned about where the floor is, it is a bit of a smaller cap than I usually commit to for the full position I have. Thank you.
Q: Celestica is down almost 14% so far on earnings (and continues downward). What do you think is driving such a fall after what seems an almost perfect report? Is it all about cloud sales? Does nothing else matter to the market?
I'm looking to reblance my portfolio and would like to take advantages of actual opportunities. I dont have any utilities and energy stocks. Also, I would like to increase my investments into large caps. Which stocks would you recommand? Growth / bakanced oriented.
For utilities, i noticed the drop on bip.un and bep.un but i already own bn. Would you buy of them or just add to bn... or buy something else for better diversification.
Q: Why is Neighbourly Pharmacy trading down at such a large discount to the offer to take it private at $20.50. It seems undervalued even without the offer. Would it be a buy at todays price. Thanks for your great service.
Q: What are your thoughts on GDI? I've been holding in my TFSA for around 3 years and up 12%. They made a purchase last week which looks good. Its more or less been flat and slightly down for the last little while. I know you like it and still hold but I'm looking to high grade this stock for a better alternative if there is one. Looking at total return 5+ yrs, what small/mid cap stocks would you rank above this one currently that I could swap with? Some names that come to mind are TVK (not held) and HPS.A (holding already). So I would sell GDI and buy one of the others, which do you like currently that have greater growth potential? If any others in Cad or US, please offer your suggestions.
Also quick thoughts on NVEI (held in TFSA), time to cut it loose? Thanks!
Q: This Brookfield Office preferred is trading with an over 12% yield and if I understand correctly is resetting on December 31, 2023 at a higher rate. Why is it trading down lately with rates so high and resetting so soon. Knowing that it is higher risk would you consider it a buy for its high yield. Also could it be called for a large capital gain on Dec 31.
Q: thinking about purchasing some bip.un and just wondering as long as i hold in my registered account [rrsp] will i get all dividends or will there be a withholding tax.
thanks
Q: I own both and looking to add only to one at this time. Which to add for total return over 3-5 years? Yield on BNS is enticing currently, but exposure to Central America economies leaves me feeling it's riskier than TD with US exposure. What say you guys?
