Q: My wife's non-registered Canadian stock fund is invested conservatively, primarily for income. However RY now exceeds 16% of the assets. I know this far exceeds your recommended level for any one holding, but selling some shares will generate very substantial capital gains. What is your advice in this situation? Thank you.

Q: Hi 5i,

In response to Marcel's question today:

"Do you have or know of a good website for calculating or forecasting of how long assets in a persons retirement will or should last in years?"

I've found these site good:

https://www.financialmentor.com/calculator/best-retirement-calculator

And,

https://www.dinkytown.net/java/retirement-planner-calculator-canadian.html

The first one is more flexible as you can add in holders for CPP and OAS, indexed for inflation. It also allows one to adjust GO, SLOW GO, and NO GO withdrawals.

On a separate note, can we create a specific blog for retirees? I for one are getting close and it would be nice for members to share investment planning tips.

Thx.

Q: In October 2024 in reply to a question about an AI etf you replied:

The Canadian field is very limited and all funds are too small for our liking right now. We would recommend: BOTZ, AIQ, and IRBO which are USD funds. RBOT is a CAD-hedged option and CIAI is an unhedged CAD option; both however are too small for our liking.

Is that still the case that there is only RBOT as a cdn hedged option? Any other updtes to that question: I want to buy an AI ETF.

Q: I want to put some money into an RESP for our newborn granddaughter. I will add some more stable growth stocks over time, but I want to start with 1 AI stock or ETF and 1 crypto stock or ETF, as the base.
These will be the buy and forget, holdings in the RESP
Can you recommend a couple US/CDN stocks and etfs in both categories, and your thoughts on whether US or Cdn currency is the better option. For a long-term hold like this, am I better to use stocks or ETFs, as the base?

Q: Hello 5i
It's my understanding that GFL (industrial sector) was added to the BE portfolio in May 2025. Were there a total of two purchases totalling a 2.5% new position weight for that equity?
GFL's CEO is Patrick Dovigi and 5i considers it a big plus that Dovigi is also the founder of GFL.
1) can you please compare his pay package to those of the CEOs at WM, WCN and RSG?
2) in light of 2 above, can you shed any light about the governance of GFL and profitability of that company when C-suite compensation is factored into your thinking?
3)Dovigi's 2024 compensation seems out-sized by many factors. Was there a specific reason for that in 2024 or does relative overcompensation persist over multiple years at GFL?
Thanks in advance,

Q: Everyone, CSU, LMN and TOI have the same company strategy. They exist in technology but different spheres. The management of LMN and TOI came from the CSU training ground with the same skill sets as CSU. Can one assume that LMN and TOI will grow at similar rates as CSU over the long term? Clayton
