Q: I am helping my 65-year-old mother reallocate about 20% of her growth and income portfolio in collaboration with her financial advisor; the major move is to decrease the very large position she has in bank stocks. For most of this chunk (17% say), her advisor has suggested an even-split combination of the following (in light of the interest rate hike, and to provide additional dividends): Telus (T), Pure Multi-Family REIT (RUF.UN), Slate Retail REIT (SRT.UN), Power Financial (PWF), Manulife (MFC), and Altagas (ALA) (in anticipation of the potential WGL acquisition). Would you replace any of these (and if so with what)? Would you give greater weight to any? Thanks!

Q: I am a 46 y/o retired investor living on dividend income. I notice that your BE portfolio has a 3.5% holding of Telus (4.40% yield) and your Income portfolio has a 5.37% holding of BCE (4.92% yield).
While Telus currently has a lower current yield, it has a higher Dividend Growth Rate (DGR).
As a younger income investor, should my telecom holdings be more weighted to Telus over BCE as the Yield on Cost (YOC) should be higher for Telus in a few years because of its higher DGR?
Do you think that Telus has more company growth and therefore more stock price appreciation than BCE in the next 3-5 years?

Q: Good Evening 5i,
I need to add a "communications" company to my dividend fund. I would appreciate it if you could rank T, BCE, RCI.B and SJR.B for me. I'm planning on a 5 year hold and hoping for reasonable/modest annual increases in both the dividend and share price. Would you recommend 1 full position or 2 half positions?
Thanks for your great work as usual.

Q: I have BCE and RCI.B. I had thought of dropping Rogers and buying Telus, now Rogers is moving somewhat. Would you recommend I replace one of the two with Telus? Keep the two I have? or invest in all three as I am underweight Telcos?

Thank you for this and all your answers to others

Q: I have opened an RESP for my 5month old with 3K in it (2500 plus 500 from govt). I know its small the first year, but I don't want to add a Canadian ETF as they are too oil and gas and financial focused.

I would like to own some good Canadian growth names that will hopefully be worth a lot when she heads off to school in 18 years and would like to keep it small since it is a small account to start. My idea was the following 7: GUD, SHOP, SIS, T, TD, AQN, PBH. I would like your opinion on them. Would you do anything differently?

Once I own all of the Canadian stocks my plan is to add XAW for world diversification.

What do you think of this idea? Which stocks would you add to the account first? I was thinking of starting with either 3 of 1K each or 4 of 750 each. I pay 7 dollars to buy them which isn't too bad.

What order would you add in?

With only 3K per year in the account it would take 3 years to get the stocks and ETF. I could just add another 2500 to the account now so that I can buy more of it now and be instantly diversified. I would not receive the grant on it but would I still receive future grants?

Q: Hi can you rate the above four companies in terms of long term growth potential, from best to worst. Safety should play a minor factor as well.

Thanks

Q: The Telus earnings release includes a statement that they raised the Q dividend 7.1% to .4925 (from .48). Looks to me like a 2.6% increase. Am I missing something here? Perhaps the 7.1% (incorrectly) includes a 2nd increase that they may make later this year (as they did in 2016)?? Thanks

Q: After 6 1/2 years I finally sold Verizon as its share price and prospects have been trending downwards.

I hold BCE and T, together worth 7.2% of my portfolio. I usually keep Telcos at around 10% so I am debating whether to add to BCE and T or to consider Rogers or Cogeco to replace V.

- BCE and T have both been on a tear and sporting rich RSI's, but have a notably higher yield than RCI.

- Rogers is up 50% in the last 21 months.

- Cogeco has caught fire after years of treading water.

What's a guy to do?

Thanks!

Q: hello 5i:
a question of a technical nature. I hold Telus and BCE, not quite full positions. In our area, Telus has just upgraded to the 4G network; yet, I read that both AT&T, and Verizon, are upgrading to 5G networks. Will this put Telus behind the curve, and will shares suffer as a result? Are any of the Canadian companies upgrading to 5G networks, or is this even relevant (ie, they'll play catch-up and it won't matter?)
thanks

Q: My son is currently 39 years old and is trying to develop a solid diversified portfolio. All of his holdings are in his RRSP except for some money in a Tangerine International growth fund which is in his TFSA. He has some new funds to add to his holdings. Could you please recommend some companies from your model portfolios that would add more diversification to his portfolio keeping in mind his relatively long investment horizon. As always, thanks for your advice.

Q: Hello 5i,
I want to buy two stocks to balance my portfolio which is overweight in Consumer, Financial and Health Care. In my watch list I have the following stocks.
Materials: MX
Industrials: ECI, EIF, KWH.UN
IT: ENGH, SYZ
Telecom: T
Utilities: BEP.UN
Which two stocks (sectors) would you buy at the present time? If (when) there is a correction, which sectors are more likely be on “sale”?
Thanks!
