Q: I try to buy best in breed companies or leaders in each sector/industry with the goal of holding for the long term. With the current sell off in high growth tech stocks my buy price alerts in the above companies are starting to get triggered. During times when we get a market sell off or sector rotation, as we may be getting over the next few days or weeks, I like to only buy one or 2 positions per day in order to keep some powder dry if the sell offs continue. If I don't hold positions in any can you rank in order of what you would buy first to last and please feel free to add other companies to this list you feel are good buys. Thanks for all your help.

Q: Hello Peter & Team,

We're all aware over the past 9 months since the Pandemic became part of our every day life, on-line shopping has really taken off.

I am thinking Cyber Security is going to have to follow suit considering how much money is travelling through the internet. Do you agree this industry should see a considerable increase in opportunities & growth in the coming years? And if so, which companies would you suggest we take a look at if we want exposure to cyber security.

Thanks for all you do.

Q: What are your thoughts on OSTK? Would you start a position with a less than a 1 year outlook? It has had quite the year given COVID, but unsure how it would fare in a post covid world and where it ranks for crypto. Any recommendations you have as alternatives with a high short term growth potential (albeit with higher associated risk) would be welcome.

Q: Hi team!

I see today on Cision that Infosys has won some new contracts and named a Digital Process leader.
Last question on this company was in 2017.
What are your thoughts these days?
Most of their 'Key Ratios' from your Companies page seem to reflect things are moving in the right direction, ie ROE, ROC. Their 3, 6, 12 and 36 month '% change' charts support this as well with gradual upwards trajectories.
If newly purchased in a balanced portfolio, should it belong to an RRSP, TFSA or non-registered. They do provide a US $ dividend so I assume RRSP.

In keeping with the 'all things Digital' theme, are their other companies you prefer that would be key (ie leaders) in leading the digital transformation? (There was a question asked on Sept 28 about 'disrupters'...not sure if these might be classified into this category).

Keep up the excellent work for us small DIY investors!!!

Cheers,
SteveMC

Q: Hello Peter,
In addition to my core portfolio built around the 5i Balanced, I have a margin borrowed portfolio that started with the idea of swing trades but has become the size of the core one as I stayed with the momentum. It is built on 3 pillars. Tech growth – (ZM, CRWD, VEEV, AVLR, LSPD, PHO, XLNX, ROKU), precious metals – (AEM, FNV, PAAS, MMX, WDO, KRR) and yield stocks -(ABBV, CU, CPX, ENB, PPL, FSZ) that help pay the interest. Two others not classified are DXCM and Visa. None of these started out as a long term holding for more than a year, but am willing to hold on in the current low interest environment. In fact, am willing to borrow more if opportunity shows up. Have my eye on NVDA, ADBE and TTD.
In case of heightened volatility which of the 3 pillars would you focus on holding and any suggestions on which ones would you exit sequentially?
Look forward to your suggestions. Thank you for your advice in advance.
Regards.
Rajiv

Q: I have essentially equal holdings in these mega caps and other US and Canadian techs listed. For a new additional tech investment, any thoughts on the best addition? Would you recommend more to an index?
I'm trying not too add too many new names.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks,

Q: Hello 5i Team,

I'm considering selling my slumping AYX and replacing it with either JD for some China exposure, CRWD, or CRM. Just wondering if I can get your thoughts on this and a ranking for a five year hold. I would be selling AYX with a small gain, but I know it's not expected to do much in the short term and maybe prospects are better elsewhere? Thanks.

Q: "Hello 5i team,

As we approach election season and Q4, the markets look to be taking a bit of a downturn that is reminiscent of earlier this year in Feb/Mar.

What are your thoughts on what's ahead for Q4 in terms of buying? Are there any industries and/or names that you would suggest to focus on?

Specifically, I am considering AAPL, MA, SHOP, SQ and AMZN on the current correction, given the upcoming holiday and gift buying season is likely to have a lot of ecommerce action and new apple toys, with payment processing being a natural fit.

If you could suggest your views on which industries and names have typical strength Q4 that would be appreciated.

Thanks very much! "

Q: First of all, thank you for all your great advice. It's appreciated.
I'm interested in ideas for some good stocks involved in "data protection," please. Basically cyber security I guess, but more specifically the protection of what the everyday individual does on the internet, social media, etc (ie: your personal data) from being collected and used by Facebook, Google, Apple, Amazon, etc, etc, etc.
If you have a differing opinion please feel free to express it, but my thought would be that what is done with our personal data and all the compounding issues that tie into this theme are a societal issue that will hopefully get a lot of attention in the coming years.. decades..
Thank you.

Q: We are experiencing the third day of steep declines in the US tech sector. Is it time to look at picking up some bargains if so what names would you prefer at today's prices? Would we be better advised to buy an ETF like VGT or individual stocks?

Q: Morning team,

I've recently taken some profits and have some cash to deploy for long term holds. And I would be interested to know what your top investment "themes" would be for the next 5+ years are? For instance, ideas that come to mind for me are Cloud computing, "green" investment, and cyber security. Are there others that you find more intriguing? And which companies/ETFs would you recommend as investments?

Thank you again for you insights!
