Q: I've noticed there is a divergence on many days between the performance of Canadian and American oil and gas stocks. Today, for example, many Canadian oil stocks are down. XEG is down .86% on the day. All the American O&G ETFs are up, most fairly strongly. What accounts for this?

Would you let run or change to VDE for safety.

Also this is would be in my cash account. I know the withholding tax would apply to the dividend but no big deal.

My goal is to reduce my Canadian holdings.

Q: Apparently, there are 11 major sectors in the S&P (Global Industry Classification Standard). Could you please list one ETF to best represent EACH major sector of the S&P? For example, would IUIT best represent the entire Info Tech sector of the S&P? It seems the SPDR funds are much more specific than the 11 GICS sectors:

Q: According to a G&M article on treat of stagflation, XSB is not a good choice of invest re 40-60 portfolio.

Why!! I think the clean air flavor of the month is dead for a while and want the ride oil shortage.

Q: Hi Peter, Ryan, and Team,

Like many members as well as 5i, I am increasingly frustrated with PKI. For example, it dropped 5.2% on January 18. :(

We hold PKI in both my wife’s and my RRIFs. Both holdings are still up, but I’m considering exiting PKI while we’ve still made some money.

I was considering equal purchases of SU, CNQ or CVE, TOU, and KEY for each RRIF (2 for each RRIF). Would you be OK with such a move? Please rank these 5 stocks for safety and upside.

Another move I was considering is to raise our US exposure by buying Vanguard’s ETF VDE. (According to Portfolio Analytics, we’re underweight in the energy sector, as well as USA). Would you endorse this purchase, which would be for our non-registered account? Am I correct in assuming that any withholding taxes shouldn’t prevent this purchase in a non-registered account?

I also manage our son’s TFSA, and unfortunately his holding in PKI is down by quite a bit. I intend to hold it, but would certainly exit it if 5i drops it from the Balance Equity Model Portfolio. Is 5i considering such a move?
