Q: Hello,
I have owned stpl for years as a sector based diversification strategy but feel it has had disappointing returns, even for that sector noting that there are some great breakout picks in the staples sector.
Could you please advise if you think it is a reasonable choice for the staples sector versus specific picks?
I realize that you typically recommend dol as well as wmt, cost and pg. just wondering what you think are good long term picks at this time given significant movement in these in the last couple of years.

Q: I have very limited to zero holdings in Consumer Defensive and Cyclical. Could you explain the difference between Defensive and Cyclical and recommend how best to invest, either individual stocks or ETF.

Q: I am coming into a $50,000 gift from aging parents, and would like to invest for my 10 month old son’s education. I want long term growth until he needs the money (probably 18 years or so). Would you recommend 100% ZSP or some other ETF? Also, should I buy in one shot as soon as I have the money ?

Q: I have held XLP for sometime and thought it may be better to hold a few consumer defensive stocks instead for better overall performance. Also, XLP has a high percentage of tobacco companies that would prefer not to hold.

Would you be able to provide a 2 or 3 suggestions. I would prefer US or international companies.

Q: Hi,
I was bit surprised by your answer to Kevin's question today about your sector preferences. You had chosen the following: XIT/XRE/XFN/XLY/XLV.

I thought given the current possible recession scenario lurking in the background and also from your own answers to others, you would have chosen XLP, soft or hard landing people need Staples to survive, XEG because of all the uncertainties, XBM/GLD as one expects demand to go up when China opens up. Plus as a hedge against the USD going down.

There must be a reason for your choice. I am curious to find what your rationale was/is.

Q: Apparently, there are 11 major sectors in the S&P (Global Industry Classification Standard). Could you please list one ETF to best represent EACH major sector of the S&P? For example, would IUIT best represent the entire Info Tech sector of the S&P? It seems the SPDR funds are much more specific than the 11 GICS sectors:
Information Technology
Health Care
Financials
Consumer Discretionary
Communication Services
Industrials
Consumer Staples
Energy
Utilities
Real Estate
Materials
