Q: What did you think of their q3 results? Seems like the company is benefiting from exposure to the strong texas market. How does the valuation/growth compare to to other alternatives? Thanks

- Canadian Apartment Properties Real Estate Investment Trust (CAR.UN)
- Colliers International Group Inc. Subordinate Voting Shares (CIGI)
- Tricon Residential Inc. (TCN)
Q: How was their q3? Did it beat expectations? What do you think of this reit relative to alternatives?
Q: How did the earnings look?
- Tricon Residential Inc. (TCN)
- Granite Real Estate Investment Trust (GRT.UN)
- Summit Industrial Income REIT (SMU.UN)
- Dream Industrial Real Estate Investment Trust (DIR.UN)
Q: My Real Estate holdings, aside from a paid off home, are DIR.UN (39% of real estate holdings; up 46%), GRT.UN (13%; 11.7%), SMU.UN (16.5%; 9.5%) and TCN (31.5%; 28%).
My longer term holdings have been DIR and TCN. Following 5i's emphasis upon Industrials as a current favourable sector and comments that Industrial REITs are fewer in number (eg WPT's recent buy out by Blackstone) and therefore more valuable, plus a TD analyst comments on the possibility of an SMU buy out, I bought GRT and SMU.
However, in a general intent to streamline my overall portfolio to fewer and 'best quality' holdings, how would you suggest I amalgamate these holdings to maintain subsector and geographic coverage with projected best return? Which is the least desirable holding(s) that I might sell?

Q: TCN received a couple of analyst rating that were just average. Stock is down today. Can you comment on what your assessment is and what the future might hold? I have owned many years and it appears to be a well run company.

Q: Hi Peter, Ryan, and Team,
Portfolio Analytics indicates that we need to increase our Real Estate holdings, but the only place to do so would be in an unregistered account. I’m looking at GRT.UN and TCN. My thinking is that even though GRT.UN has a slightly better chart, the best option would be to go with TCN, and since it’s not a REIT, there would be some tax advantages in this situation. Is my thinking correct? I should add that our only holdings in this sector are FSV and IIP.UN, both recommendations of 5i, but held in our RRIFs. A big thank you for these past recommendations, and for your assistance with my latest query.

Q: Presently I own TCN and its only 2% on my real estate exposure should i add more or add another real estate holding like CAR.UN.CA CIGA:CA or is there others you would recommend. I have about $500,000 in my portfolio what should my real estate exposure be in % terms. Thanks for you help with this
Q: CCS-u seemed to have had a correction mid-summer. I received your report on TCN-c and it looks extremely interesting. Am considering a purchase of one or both. Would you have a favourite or would you consider them equals from a point-of-view as investment opportunities? Is the U.S. housing market still booming?

I’d like your take on these 3 stocks as they’ve all displayed good momentum as of late, in their respective indices.
Thnx for your excellent service!

Thank you

Q: Greetings 5i members
I have been thinking about increasing my reit exposure. I know that you like tcn and Granite reit. There is also a US reit that you have mentioned from time to time. I tried to look it up on the site by going through the questions. But nothing rang a bell. I am quite sure you will know the company I am talking about. Out of the two mentioned and the so far unknown US reit, which would be your favourite and why? I cannot see either any advantage in holding a Canadian reit in a registered account. Nor can i see a disadvantage in holding a US reit. Do you see any advantages or disadvantages one way or another?
Thanks as always for the great service you provide

Q: Earlier this year we created an equal weighted 'balanced' portfolio of 30 Canadian companies in a non-registered account. Most were chosen from companies either covered by a 5i research report or included in a 5i model portfolio. The remainder were chosen, based on the 5i Q&A section, from what appear to be 5i sector favourites. All purchases in the portfolio are made with the intent to be long-term holds (10+ years).
As per an earlier question we posed, we then increased our positions in 12 of the 30 companies. At this time we would like to increase our investments in 6 of the remaining 18 companies. The intent is to increase the other 12 in approximately 4 months. Which 6 would you add to today? Please rank them, include a small blurb explaining each choice and suggest an entry point. Thanks!

Q: Hi,
Can you tell me what type of account is generally best to hold US REITs, from a tax perspective?
I hold these 4 Canadian REITs (TCN, WIR.U, DIR.UN, SMU.UN) and am interested in several US REITS. I've been considering AMT, CCI, EQIX, DLR. Can you comment on these and suggest a few others.

Q: Are you aware of any companies in Canada that would have a business model similar to Tricon (TSX:TCN) wherein they rent single family residences in Canada. My understanding is that Tricon's portfolio is largely in the United States.
Thank you
Thank you
