Q: We are planning to set up a separate investment account for our grandkids. Assume a 10 year hold. There are a few sectors we would want to overweight - 3 stocks, CAD or US, in Financials, Industrials, Technology and 1-2 stocks in the others. What would you look for and how would that translate into individual stock selections.
Q: Comments on the TD penalty news today? To me it seemed expected their growth would be somewhat limited in the US, but in the surface it seems it could have been worse. Market seems to be overreacting a bit I think. Thoughts?

iShares S&P/TSX Canadian Preferred Share Index ETF (CPD $13.56)
-
iShares U.S. High Yield Bond Index ETF (CAD-Hedged) (XHY $16.75)
Q: Would both these 2 ETF fall under Financial services? I have 25% holding in this sector and need to reduce and wonder which ETF would you sell to bring down the weight. Both are 5% weight in my RRSP account. I have also some other financial stocks in a non registered account but reluctant to sell as this would would create a capital gain and I have no loss to offset the gain with.
Thanks

I would like to sell my CPD which has given me no growth and reinvest in better growth/ dividend paying stocks. Could you offer me the names of 5 such stocks?.
Cheers,
Tamara

Q: Value investor with some growth, 78 years old with good pension. I am slightly overweight in financials as above. I now see that I own both BKCC and HMAX. I do not seem to need both. I intend to sell BKCC and buy AW.UN to take advantage of its current situation. Does this sound like a plan or are there pitfalls?
Thank you

Q: 5i and I agree on the importance of good management teams (think CSU and ATD). I'm inclined to pin the giant mess TD has created with money laundering woes in the US on its management team and most especially the CEO and Board. Do you agree and if so, would it not be prudent to stick with other banks until we see changes in the upper ranks of TD?
Q: If not asked may I have your comments are T D earnings please. Do you have any idea how long it will take to see the end of all their problems!
Q: Has your outlook on TD changed following the latest results and announcement of such a large provision.
Q: Hi Peter, with TD results out including penalty news and CNR hanging towards low end, do you think these are close to bottom yet or expect more correction in sept due to tax loss selling? Thanks

Q: My husband is 8 years away from retirement and wants to buy dividend stocks to leave mostly alone (not checking daily like me!) - he'll check in on it now and then. This is the list he's come up with - slightly higher positions in BCE, BPF.UN and slightly lower in AW.UN, CAR.UN and OLY, otherwise fairly evenly split. Do you see this a good list for his purposes, and is there anything you would leave off, or add? Any other alarm bells? Thanks!

Q: you recently answered a question on august 13 about higher / better / safer quality dividend stocks with yields in the 3-5 % range (vs going after yields over 6 %).
What would you consider to be the top 10 of this 3-5 % yield higher quality dividend stock category?
