Q: I have a large capital gain on Boyd for the 2020 tax year which I am considering offsetting by taking Capital losses which I have on the above mentioned stocks, including BYD. What is the best way to do this? Sell and wait 30 days to re-buy? Sell now and buy proxies (what would they be?)? I’m also considering using stop losses to take advantage of any increase in stock prices I might otherwise miss. Would appreciate you comments and advice. Michael

Q: I have the following securities in what I consider a balanced portfolio. The fixed income portion doesn’t show here because it consists of OAS. CCP. Plus two other pensions.
I’m thinking of sell part position in MMX ( small loss);and ARE to realize a capital loss while at the same time raising some cash for the next pullback. I like TFII . We need to keep the food chain moving. Trucking an important part . The other is cargo jet. Am I on the right track . Your opinion. Or would you look elsewhere given the current holdings.

What are your current views on MRC, they do have retail and hospitality exposure however they also own very valuable office and multi-family assets. They have been decimated but they should survive this. Would you buy at these levels?

Q: In a recent question I asked how to proceed in investing the 30% cash I had during this period of volatility. 5 I recommended a slow procedure... I also mentioned that I had already taken a 4.6 % position in JPM and 5 I commented that a slower approach was recommended. It promptly dropped 10% after the question.... But with the current rally is now up 5% . So the question is do I sell half to get back in line with 5 I's slow approach through the volatility or let it ride ? { there are no tax consequences to selling as it is in a RRIF }

Q: Which company do you prefer in this environment - BYP.UN or HR.UN? Do any have a risk of a distribution cut or will it all work out more or less once the pandemic is under control?

Q: With the possible exception of MDT or ISRG, some of the US listed medical stocks remain down near their lows while other names have rallied hard. I am interested in the companies above and wonder if you can tell me if each would be a buy for you at current levels? Again each are down a lot, have favourable analyst ratings but haven't bounced much. Are there any on this list you DO NOT like?

There is no need for additional comments, the money isn’t needed in 5 years that’s just a timeframe that should hopefully allow for success vs the virus and recovery economically and adapting to the changed world ( going cashless, online shopping, deliveries, remote work etc) Risk is not an issue and neither is sector diversification. thank you !

Thanks for your valuable advice.

I am trying to process the wild swings going on and the lagging advice coming out through business news channels. With the new upswing in the markets, everyone is now proposing what we should have bought (and could still do). This is frustrating as it was good advice a week ago, and things will surely change again.

While we all understand that there is no crystal ball, what do you feel are likely scenarios for markets as investors process central bank and legislator market stimulants?
It appears that investment strategy is now heavily influenced by what has dropped, in combination with highly likely to be supported by government as critical assets.
If you could suggest any further insight in future direction or departures from recent strategy, and whether you feel that the government interventions are likely to hold us at a V shaped market curve, that would be helpful.
