Q: I am considering adding AVGO with its most recent price decline on what appeared to be a good Q. Would you concur that the sell off has been over done given there was little to complain about in the quarterly release. MSFT is my other add consideration, as it has corrected some, likely in sympathy with the AI fears. Of the 2 which would you consider more attractive for a 5 year hold? In the account I also hold NVDA, GOOGL, META, AMZN, and MU for tech names. Thank you.

Q: Hi 5i team,
Among the tech giants, I own NVDA, GOOG, and AMZN. I have a high level of confidence in NVDA and Google, but not the same level for AMZN. My reasoning for owning AMZN is its upside potential, I think, driven by operational efficiency improvements and advertising revenue growth, despite cloud competition. I belive MSFT has the most resilient business model for compounding with diversified revenue streams and a clear path to AI monetization. The case for AAPL is its business and ecosystem, and it is a potential winner if AI doesn’t pan out as expected.
All of them are buyable and ownable, and I would appreciate your input on which three stocks you are more confident in for a long-term hold and why.
Best,
Matt

Q: I am up on all the above listed stocks however down on AC, LMN, BCE, WELL, LLY, my question is should i sell some losers as well as some winners to shore up CSU (presently own 9 shares in my TSFA. Do you sees this as once in a lifetime opportunity to load up on arguably the best managed company in Canada i am leaning towards selling WMT and FFH in the winners column (both consist of 8% each of my portfolio what losers would you sell if wanted more exposure to CSU....your thought on this strategy please ps am 74 yrs old and a conserved investor

Q: Hello 5i,
A follow up to Willie’s question about a potential USD devaluation on Sept 03.
We have 50% of our RRSP and TFSA in USD. Investments outside of the US and Canada are in CDN though those investments are minimal. In the past, the suggested path was to own US stocks with US funds over using CDN dollars to purchase US stocks or purchasing CDR’s. Moving forward, is it prudent to slightly reduce USD exposure by having a combination of CDR’s and US stocks for US investments (i.e. 10k in MSFT CDR’s + 10k of MSFT in USD)?
We had purchased USD about 8 years ago with a plan to vacation in the US upon retirement though we decided to vacation elsewhere now with CDN dollars. A currency cost would apply to sell 10% of USD though we do not have costs to buy or sell. This change would only be applied to the largest positions (NVDA, GOOG, META, MSFT, BRK.B, WMT.)
5i always seem to be ahead of the curve in their investment strategies and we are humble beneficiaries from your knowledge.
Thank you for your insight.

Q: I'd like to either start a 4% position in TRI or bring the other 4 positions up closer to 5%. Also I could just start a smaller position in TRI and bring the others up a bit, distributing funds across the names. If you could rank order these names, it might help me decide. As is, now MSFT and AMZN are quite small positions. Would any be affected by Tariffs? Just not sure how bullish you are on TRI vs the others. Thank you very much for continued great investment analysis.
Q: Hi Folks,
I would like to add to my holdings in either MSFT or GOOG in my TFSA. May I have your opinion as to which one you would recommend at this time.
Thanks

Q: Update: According to BMO Investorline, item 2) below is not an option. The CRD has a different CUSIP (59516M104) than the NASDAQ listed stock (5949181045). Apparently this is true for almost all CDRs.
Hello,
I have 60 shares of MSFT in a non-registered account, and want to sell 18 shares to raise cash of about $11,300. I have capital losses in the account to offset the gains, so there should be no net tax.
To minimize transaction costs, I am considering three options:
1) Sell MSFT directly, and then use Norbert's Gambit to convert to Cdn$
2) Convert the shares the CDR equivalent, i.e. MSFT.CA and sell that in Cdn$ (not allowed according to BMO)
3) Sell MSFT for USD and then have the bank convert the shares (~1.6% conversion loss)
Which of these do you recommend?

Q: Hi 5i,
Most of the MAG7's charts show a "Death Cross" pattern. Please rank which would be the most attractive to purchase for a 5+ year hold. Your answer can also include other companies that have exhibited this pattern. Looking for big caps, mostly US. Thx.

Q: Hi, sorry for my apple to oranges question, but I’m thinking of selling Msft ( down) for tax loss and adding X for a long term hold. Would you be ok with this move, or do you feel Msft would be much better in the long term? Looking for the elusive combination of steady growth and stability.
Thanks
Thanks

I don't really want to sell and wait 30 days to rebuy the same stock.

I also have MSFT and a few other growth stocks. At that price is it OK to take a position in GOOG or is it too late? I have a time frame of 5 to ten years for this 80 year old.

Q: Hi group the above stocks i sold 1/2 of my folio about 3 months ago/ yes at a tidy profit. My question is I am 75 years old and have $100,000 to reinvest (20% of my total portfolio)...(dry power) i do not need any cash to supplement my income for at least 5 years unless the market falls of a cliff because of Trump/Tariffs. I would say I am a sleep at night investor So the question is what to do now wait or start nibbling now. These stocks make up about 70% of the total portfolio
