Q: How much have each of these names hedged their forward sales and how common is it in the patch? What is the most hedged Canadian name and the least? If unhedged how much in terms of EPS % gain generally can be expected if oil remains at $100 or even $80 for the remainder of this year?

Q: Because of the issues in the middle east and oil shortage for the near future I am thinking of bringing my oil holdings up from 5% to 10% I own these pipeline and oil companies. I was thinking of selling my pipeline companies and moving more into oil producers. My thought was to top up SU, CVE, WCP, and add TVE. Do you see any issues with this strategy, or with companies selected?

Thanks Dave

Q: Would you buy any of these oil stocks at present?
If so, is there one that you would prefer?
Might it be safer to invest in an ETF?
Thanks for your advice.

Q: Markets still look somewhat overevaluated and are volatile : what sector(s) could represent an entry point with no excessive risk actually , real estate looking interesting among others ?

Q: Hello team,

Given the looming tensions in the Middle East, which Canadian or US oil company listed above will have the highest price potential if the United States attack Iran?

I would also like to hear your perspective on the probability of this event in the near future, the price of oil as a result, and any oil company which you would consider buying in advance.

Thank you as always!

Q: In FU to my previous question about the need to pay capital gains my new CVE shares from the takeover of MEG, you stated it can be a tax-free transaction "if the rollover is declared". As I did an AI search for clarity, it states that the Section 85 rollover cannot be declared unilaterally by one party; both the individual taxpayer and the acquiring Canadian company must jointly elect for the Section 85 rollover. Can I assume that CVE would have declared their part in the "joint election" with CRA? So when I file my taxes and use the form, it should be okay? Thanks

Q: Dear Peter et al:

Finally the "Board room Brawl and the dust" has settled. My iTrade has finally properly ledgered the changes. It shows that I am in the "green"! Yea!!!

The question is now what?! What is your opinion on CVE going forward? I know you don't answer any personal questions. So, if YOu were a holder of CVE, would YOU, add to CVE or leave it alone or sell? What are your alternatives to CVE?

Many thanks.

Q: Hello. In the MEG takeover by CVE, I opted for all shares, but received 96% shares and 4% cash because it was over subscribed. In my TD statement, the "book cost" of my new CVE shares reflects the price of the recent transaction, not my original cost of the MEG shares. Will I need to pay capital gains on the shares? As I researched the issue, some sites say the transaction is a "deemed disposition", and I will need to pay capital gains on the shares and cash, and other sites say I can use the "Section 85 rollover" provision to delay capital gains on the shares. Your insight is appreciated.

Q: What are your thoughts on the current offer for Meg Energy presuming it goes through. If we keep Cenovus stock we would have a half position.

We also own an almost full position in CNQ and TOUR. Have a full position in ENB. Those last 3 are about 5% of our portfolios.

I'm mostly looking at this as providing me with more cash but might hold the half position of Cenovus if the future is bright. (I know you don't have a crystal ball!)

Would you keep the half position of Cenovus or instead sell Cenovus and use the cash to add more to TOUR or CNQ?

We're retired, conservative investors.

Q: Hi, after holding CVE for awhile and being under water, I'm finally nearly breaking even. After the new MEG deal, I wonder what people might think about selling it to get into other 'growthier' stocks long-term (like SHOP, LMN, PRL, for example, but open to other ideas as well).
Thank you!

Q: I am considering triming the following stocks ALA, BDT, CVE, EFN, GSY, GWO, IAG, MEG, PEY, TVE, TVK, WCP and X. If I do trim, there will be significant Capital Gains. How would you rank them for total return over the next 2 years? How would you rank them for trimming and if different than above ranking, please advise the reason for the difference ? Thanks
