Q: I have about a 12% equity position in ZQQ. This etf has more than doubled since acquired in mid 2016 as part of portfolio realignment suggested by 5iResearch (Thanks 5i!!). With respect to sector allocation I have been assigning this etf as all technology. However, BMO breaks it down at about 50% tech with other sectors accounting for the other 50%. I understand that a great many stocks and etfs are spread over more than one sector or one geographic area. Please advise if I should continue to consider this as all tech sector for the purpose of sector allocation. Appreciate your help with this.

Q: I am thinking of purchases of these 6 ETFs (or some of them). Would you see ZPAY, FCIQ, and FCUQ as being defensive? And back to the "where should I hold" issue: where would these 6 best be held for tax or other efficiencies: Cash account? RRSP? TFSA? Corporate account? Many thanks.

Q: Harry asked an interesting question about investing in US Tech stocks and wanted an ETF. I did a 52-week comparison of the performance of the 4 mentioned Tech stocks with the ZQQ ETF. If my rough calculations are correct, one would have almost doubled their money with these 4 stocks compared to the putting the same money in ZQQ over the last 52 weeks. Past performance is no indication of the future, but I would like your thoughts on buying these 4 now versus the ETF. In my situation I would put 5% of my investments in these four and currently well diversified and a good chuck of fixed income (>30%). For me maybe okay (your thoughts please) but in general would this also apply to most investors. Please respond to my situation and the general situation if you can please. Thanks so much. Dan C.

Q: Hello 5i team. I am starting an investment accounts for my daughter who has started working. She & I are interested in, for her TFSA, co's such as Google, Apple, Microsoft and other tech consumer names. Is there a Cdn dollar ETF with distributions, that invests in this space. I am additionally considering ZWH & CDZ to round off as a starting base.

Q: Looking for some guidance on my US equity holdings. All of my US holdings are in the above ETFs in my RRSP accounts. The US portion represents 21% of my total investment portfolio. Generally I look for a balance between income and growth with dividends used to supplement my pension income. I have 9 years before I have to RIF.
I had held VGG and VUN until recently when, based on one of your answers to another persons question, I switched to ZSP as it has a slightly better return, lower MER and higher Tech weighting. Also more friendly tax structure. I also picked up ZUP at that time for more yield but might be ready to sacrifice that holding for one with more growth or simply add it to the other holdings to keep it simple.
Could I have your opinion on my holdings and any suggestions for improvements and why. I am looking for good overall diversification across the US market with a view to a balance between income and growth. Would like to keep my holdings in CAD.

Q: I'm looking to convert a RESP invested in mutual fund (chorus II agressive growth) to lower fees and menage it more actively. Kids are 5 and 2 years old.

I was thinking to diversify with 3 or 4 ETF for 70% of this portfolio. What are your thoughts about a combinaison of VFV, XIC, XIT, ZQQ and DXG for long term? Do you have better suggestions?

Althought, is investing in XIT and ZQQ and DXG a good idea on short term since tech valuation is already high at this moment compared to other sectors?

For the rest of portfolio (30%), i would go with stocks. What would be your top 4 on short term (next 6-12 months) and on long term?

Q: Hello 5i: Thank you for holding our hands during this difficult time, it is much appreciated. I ask about the Mawer funds, in particular 104, 150, 102. I hold these funds in a RRIF and as all above purchase price I ask if you would keep these funds or are there vehicles that have more potential upside? Thank you Barb

Q: 1st question on ENB , I see lots of recommendations on ENB. I understand that this co. has mostly take or pay contracts (I am also aware of their investments in renewables etc.) however, it looks like there is a possibility of oil storage filling to capacity, if this does happen many pipelines will have basically slow to a trickle or even stop for a while, if this were to happen would this not give energy cos. stuck with take or pay an out as their contracts wouldn't be honored, it seems like a very risky situation to me for all the pipelines, what is your take on this?
2nd question would you endorse buying ZQQ for a 1 stop tech exposure ( I like the idea of being hedged) or would you prefer something else. I was also looking at the ARK etf's F W K ( tesla seems heavy in some of these) which of these would you prefer in combo with a ZQQ or instead of? dock as many as needed as I don't use many, lol. Thanks for your perspectives and all the work you do.
