Q: I am trying to construct a barbell style Canadian portfolio.Can you name 5-6 growth names you favour and 5-6 defensive names that I might be able to build this with ?

Q: Apparently BMO, CIBC and TD currently have negative amortization mortgages approaching 20%. Do you have comparatives for BNS and RY ? Apparently there is one Canadian bank that is very conservative at less than 6%.

Q: Hi Gang, wondering if there will be an update report for capital power coming soon; looks like it's a yearly ritual ☺️. Till then, do you see this recent drop as a good leg in? I thought last qtr was a good report and company seems like it's executing it's strategy. Did I miss something or is this a reaction to higher for longer interest rates?

Q: same sector tax-loss strategy...What am I missing here...with the assumption that the banks move more or less in tandem...

If I sell BNS stock at a $30K loss and use the funds to buy BMO as a "placeholder", won't I be in the same position either way? i.e. after a 10% gain I would either recover my losses as the BNS stock increases or I would grow tax-free gains as the BMO stock increases (up to $30K)...

Surely for this tax loss strategy it is best to just stick with the company I most believe in, yes?

Q: If you were to put odds on ATZ recovery to say $35 stock price (my average cost) what would that be?
I am not impressed at all on their 'missed opportunities in the level of new styles' and this worries me the most actually. This is fashion; they ought to know this.

My daughter and her friends in a large high school still think ATZ is THE store to shop for clothes so at least this gives me some comfort.

In regards to Well health; why is there such a disconnect between the share price and the analysts target prices at the moment? Other than current market weakness that is? My qtrade account shows 8 analysts with a average target price of $9/ share, all of which are current targets within the last couple months. One guy even has target of $12 that was reitterated on Aug. 10th. You would think if its institutional investors trading most of these shares that if the consensus is so great that they would not be selling, and would support the share price? Is Well currently this undervalued? If so would make it a compelling buy at the current $4 and change. Thanks,

Q: Thoughts before they report tomorrow? I know high inventory was an issue but I understand that they do an annual "warehouse sale" in August... should the presumed decrease in inventory overcome the haircut they'll take on the sales in terms of market reaction?

I'm asking you to predict the future a bit here, I know.
