A UBC climate change expert weighed in to nudge the Vancouver municipal council who are meeting this week on the subject to stick to their acceleration plan for Fortis (+ maybe others) to adhere to it. Do you have any facts or insight on investor sentiment over the short to medium term?

Q: Dividend growth investor here. Was wondering about the quality ACO.X as an investment. Any balance sheet concerns? The rather large portion they own of CU seems to be dictating the performance of their stock price - more less flat-ish over the last few years. So in that regard why would, say, FTS be outperforming CU over the last 5 years by approx. 25%?

Portfolio Analytics indicates an overweight position in Utilities where the current holdings are BEP.UN, CPX, and FTS. Only CPX is showing a loss, and the other two have substantial gains. In what order would you sell part positions, in order to raise cash for Consumer Cyclical? This sector’s holdings include ATD, BYD, and CCL.B. In what order would you add to existing positions? Please suggest other Consumer Cyclical stocks to consider starting a position, if you feel it would further diversify our holdings in this sector. Thanks as always for the pertinent advice.

Q: If you were to only hold one utility which would you choose? Would FTS or BIP.UN be one of them? If so, which would you select between those two for total return?

Q: AQN has not been perforning well recently. Is it a sell or a buy

Q: Retired dividend-income investor. We hold AQN in my wife's RRSP...held it since 2011...bought it at $5.60 and trimmed it several times over the years.

I am debating whether to flush it and take the proceeds and buy ZUT. I also own FTS, TRP and other utility-energy equities contained within ZLB and CDZ.

For the "keep AQN" argument = a) good momentum YTD = +27%, b) great chart, especially with the 50 mda overlay, c) if there is a take-over of AQN, there is a probable premium of "who knows "% (30%?).

For the "flush AQN" argument = a) with other planned cash injections throughout 2023, this would improve my overall sector allocations, b) minor point, but it would simplify my portfolio, by the elimination of a holding (I hold a reasonably concentrated portfolio of 12 blue chip stocks and 10 ETF's, plus fixed income), c) I thought I read that AQN is not expected to have a high rate of growth this year, d) the holdings inside ZUT look appealing, containing both renewable and non-renewable.

I am ok letting it ride for a while longer, but also ok flushing it. Your thoughts? Am I missing anything? I know you can't compare a single stock to a diversified ETF.

Q: Good morning,
May I have 5is opinion (pros and cons) regarding the following please.
I have just rolled my RSP into a RIF and am thinking of selling AQN and SPB and consolidating into ZWU. My thinking is that this will in a simpler more stable way of provide equal to better performance (income with some growth) over time. Do my thoughts have merit? I also hold BEP.UN as well as FTS.

Q: I have no utilities in my RRSP portfolio at this time. What are you preferred utilities in order of preference to buy now for total return (dividend and potential growth)? Any preferences among these that I'm thinking about being Fortis (FTS.TO / FTS), Emera (EMA.TO), Brookfield Infrastructure (BIPC.TO), Brookfield Renewable (BEPC.TO)?

Q: Could you please comment on Earnings for $FTS.

Q: If one has exposure to renewables through a large position in Brookfield Corporation (owner of 25% of BEP) and Fortis, do you think it makes sense to hold onto a small position in Northland Power? (which has showed promise over the years but has unperformed the market significantly the past 18 months)
